Does anyone have info on these two prisons? I keep hearing that CCWF is the probable location for RC.....I have a family member awaiting transportation and was wondering where she will go......

Not an expert by any means but it was my understanding that the RC for Southern California is CCWF. CIW (Corona) is the RC for SoCal parole violators. But that was from 2000, so it might have changed by now.

They all go through reception in Chowchilla, either at CCWF, or VSPW they are around the corner from each other. If given a choice from what I have heard I would want my fiancee to be at CIW. She is at VSPW, and it's pretty bad, but from what she has told me from people that she has known that have been on both sides that CCWF is the worst. The inmates run the prison there, lots of gangs, a lot of bad stuff. CIW is a lot smaller and not as dangerous from what I've heard.

The California Institution for Women accommodates all custody levels of female inmates and functions as a reception/processing center for incoming female inmates. In addition to its large general population, CIW houses inmates with special needs such as pregnancy, psychiatric care, methadone, and medical problems such as HIV infection.

the best thing to happen is that your wife/GF/Significant other .. goes to reception (from He&l) in CCWF, Chowchilla.

Then, if she is from Socal, she can go to CIW in Corona, CA.

I have visited frequently at CIW and it is much "nicer" and the visitation is much better than places up north.

More importantly, your female inmate should, if at all possible, put in for fire camp training in CIW.

There she will get a lot of outdoor exercise, and have a chance to work "fire camp training" which can let her serve her sentence at as "little" as 33%. Serve one year on a three year sentence.

Also, the fire camp visiting is much better than regular visiting.

Good luck to you and yours.

Kaysman4ever: Tks for that news...it is something to hope for...do you know what the average time in RC is for women....and how long it would normally take for a transfer to CIW......

Dear Starfish5:

Reception at CCWF can run 7-12 weeks.

It is no fun with little phone privileges, and visiting, IF there is any, is behind Glass. That is, after you make the several hundred mile trek up there to Chowchilla and back.

The lady inmate has to put in for the fire camp training, and it can take a while to get approved.

I wish I had more definite information, but that is how the DOC works, any way it wants to.

Best of luck,

Some differences between CCWF vs. VSPW -

CCWF - Houses Death Row inmates, has a hospital onsite, therefore gets many of the "least healthy" inmates. Many HIV/AIDS patients, HEPC, etc. that live in General Population with all other inmates.

VSPW - Has all of the pregnant females. Same layout as CCWF, but no DR, and slightly newer facilities.

Well I got an endorsement for CIW from my fiancee last weekend. Just out of the blue she said that she wished CIW wasn't so far away from me, because in there they call it CI Wonderful. She said it's way more laid back, and not nearly as rough down there. But she'd rather stay at VSPW and see me every weekend than be down there and see me a lot less.

does anyone know what i can do to help my boyfriend get out on bail, he assaulted me for the first time in 2 yrs because of alcohol. He's been in jail for a week now and they might not let him out until court. Can I write a letter to the judge asking them to give him a chance and let him out

CCWF-Just make sure you're not on death row. They don't really seem that concerned about my friend who is seriously suffering from fibromyalgia and other issues. She has to wait days to see a doctor and then they usually just feed her pills.

She sent me a list of the meds she's on and I was stunned. There is no way that the doctors there care about interactions between these drugs.

She was so sick on Saturday that she couldn't even get out of bed due to her pain all over. She knew I drove 125 miles to see her, and she has always struggled through the pain to see me.

The last time I saw her the cops took about 2.5 hours to finally let her go to the bathroom. She was about to burst. All this while they did the usual call to the other inmates every hour. It was pathetic. I'm thinking of writing the warden, but I doubt that would do any good.

Sad thing about her, is that there are many lifers in general pop whose crimes and murders were WAY worse than her single case.

Dorothea Puente comes to mind. She killled like 9 guys and blissfully serves her time on the mainline.

S-H-I-T, if they are going to have the barbaric death penalty in this state, why does a woman involved in ONE murder get locked up in a cage and someone like Puente is on the mainline.

It's really tearing me up as I don't know how bad her health is.
