This is so random, but I need help!!! I haven't called up any law offices yet but I thought I would try here first and see if any of you ladies know the answer to this....

I heard that in AZ, when a man gives the woman an engagement ring, and they break up....technically the ring belongs to the man and he can ask for it back. Does anyone know??????

The rule of thumb is this. If he gave you an engagement ring on a special day, on which you would expect a present i.e. birthday, valentines day, christmas etc the girl gets to keep the ring because it is considered a gift. If he gave it to you on a day that was not special and the only connection was an engagment he gets the ring back.:D

The ring goes back. . . Arizona is a community property state so depending on the length of the relationship. . . it is to return to the giver.

Maybe I am from the old school but my question is why would the female want to keep the ring? It can not be a token for fond rememberances,I wouldn't think. It was given,I suppose,as a symbol of comittment and love. Evidently that does not exist any longer. Money? Is it worth money? Personally, I would just give it back and chock it up to "lesson learned" and get on with my life.

I was taught that if I broke the engagement, I returned the ring; if he broke the engagement I kept the ring (if I wanted it).

I agree with 13 for the most part. If he breaks the engagement off then you keep the ring... unless... you cheated. Then you have officially broken the engagement. Same goes reverse... he cheats and it is broken off either way, then the ring is yours.
This is not the law however, just opinion from me.
