I have a million questions, well, it feels like it. Has anyone have or had a loved one at DVI, how recent? How long did it take to see a counselor? find out about approved visits? To get transeffered out. From when to when and where did they transfer your loved one. My husband is at DVI and he has alot of questions too, but it's his first time and he doesn't want to cause trouble by asking alot of questions.

I can't answer many of your questions as my husband is at KVSP, however, it appears that reception (anywhere) is taking longer these days. My husband was in reception for 4 months - and that was over 2 years ago. I also know that DVI is packed, so I'm sure his wait might be a few months. Usually they ship to mainline within a couple of weeks after the see their counselor. Where he goes is anyone's guess. It literally could be anywhere depending on which prison has room. You don't mention his term length, so I don't know if he's a Level 1 inmate going to a fire camp maybe or a lifer going to a Level 4 prison or somewhere in between. I'm guessing since it's his first term, he may fall somewhere in between.

He should not worry about asking questions. All the guys in reception are asking questions - it's a tough time with not a lot of answers and this is stressful for them.

My advice is to flood him with mail. Be sure he has writing supplies and stamps so he can write you.

Getting visiting approval shouldn't take much longer than a month or two but it varies. If it has been at least 30 days since you sent your form in, you should call the visiting department at DVI and ask them what the normal timeframe is. Can't hurt to ask.

Good luck and keep posting here. Weekends are a bit slow here as people are visiting, but you'll get responses I'm sure.

Aliferzwife is right, just keep flooding him with mail. I think that's the very best thing you can do right now. When my son was in reception I sent a lot of postcards. I printed pictures on some of them, just pictures of his daughters and niece and other family members and he loved getting those.

My son was mainlined to DVI, he was in the gym at first but now he's been transferred to what they call the "ranch"

Good luck and keep asking any questions you may have, there are lots of great people here at PTO
