Hi, I am new to prison talk and glad to be a member. My husband is being transferred from the Byrd Unit to Segovia Unit. Does anyone know how bad or good that unit is? What city is closest to it and is their an airport there?

Segovia is a pre-release unit and its real laid back. My husband did his last 6 months there. The only bad thiing about it is that its so far away. The closest airport is in McAllen

My husband is at this unit now. It is a pre-release unit. He hasn't really said anything bad just that it's very hot since there is no air conditioning.

It is one of the best units to land at in TDCJ. My husband spent 6 months there before getting out. I went and visited that unit every month for a special visit (4 hours on saturday and sunday) and they were all wonderful. The staff is nice there for the most part. The only bad he has told me about is the lack of AC in the dorms. If you have any particular questions, feel free to PM me and I'll ask my hubby. Oh and the only other bad thing I can thnk of is it can take a while for mail to get to you from there. Sometimes I would get four letters on one day all sent different days. I lived in DFW area.

my husband is at a different unit, but I live near Segovia. Segovia is outside of Edinburg. The closest airport is in Mcallen and will take you about 30 minutes to get to the unit. You can fly in Southwest though which is a lot cheaper but you would have to dive from Harlingen almost an hour away. If you need help finding a hotel or anything just ask.
