Hi everybody,

my BF has been sent to OBCC today. we never expected him to get locked up and I'm devastated:( , especially since I heard so much bad stuff about Rikers. Any info about this facility? I would really appreciate it, be it good or bad. I just gotta know.....

In my opinion, OBCC is one of the Nicest of the facilities at Rikers, My BF was put in the BOX there and I had the best visits there. The only problem is the Bus that takes you to the facility itself, they take some time to come and it can heat you up to see that the bus has taken several trips taking other visitors in busier facilities and youre still sitting there waiting for the bus to take you to OBCC....

The process is simple, you get stamped with the black light sensitive ink on your left hand, then the CO asks you if you have a package, if you have a package, you wait out until they call you to submit your package, then you go through the metal detectors. If you dont have a package, you go through the metal detectors right away. Go straight to the reception desk and submit your ID for a locker lock. Place all your things in the locker and go through the search to go into the visiting rooms. As soon as you clear the search, you stick your white paper into the small slot in the bubble and then wait and watch TV until they call you.

If your boy is in the BOX, wait out by the lockers until you are called. They take longer to retrieve inmates in the box as opposed to inmates in population.

Once you've visited other facilities, you will wish he was back in OBCC or the Barge at Vernon C Bain in the BX. Those are the only two facilities I would have the pleasure of going to, though I would much rather have noone to visit there at all. All other facilities are full of BS, they treat everyone like they treat the inmates im sure.

My bf is also in the box at OBCC. I had to wait a hour one time, most of the time I was taken straight to the back. If I had to wait it was usually because of him or I was sitting the front gate waiting for the officers to put us in a cage. The cage things is kind of crazy, because your man comes to you handcuffed.

and yes it is 23 hour lockdown.. limited phone calls.. but I found visiting in the box better thn reglar visits.. the c.o's are nicer.. and it's much quieter than the regular visiting room.. the only bad thing is that they do bring them out cuffed.. once inside the cage they close the door and he has to but his hands through an opening to be uncuffed.. just make sure he has plenty to read... I used to bring magazines, newspapers and books eery visit when he was in the box... otherwise there isn't much else for them to do.. also phone calls are very limited in the box so do try to visit as much as possible... hope this answered your question.. good luck

Wow, I thought OBCC is where they throw all the gangbangas. Everybody I know who went to OBCC told me that. I also herad that you are liable to get into the most fight's there, because the other inmates try to G-check you. I dunno.

OBCC or O Boy as they call it is almost exclusively Bloods. Yes, they do get it poppin in there. But they do in all the jails. The box visits are better because its more relaxed and they have less inmates to watch. This is why the regular floor is so hectic. They know they are out numbered. So they have to be hard on yall gettin up from your seat to kiss and hug and all that.

My brother is in obcc. I am not sure of all the lingo. What is the box - a cell? How safe is it? How limited are the phone calls? Any other info i would appreciate. We all have to be strong.

um if he's in the box you're not on the regular floor you get to be in a cage with him. i prefer it ... its a lot quieter and as long as you keep your hands on the table they're pretty much okay with whatever.

um, as for the phone calls i'm not sure but i know he wasn't able to call me as much.

when they are in the box they only get one 6 minute call everyday except for sundays they get an extra call. the box is when they are in cpsu/isolation, away from the other inmate because they got in trouble somewhere along their time. its probably one of the safest part of the island because they dont have contact with other inmate and when they do they are cuffed. not to say things are impossible but not as easy. if they are in a cell or a dorm means they are together with the general population. they than get 3.21 minute calls a day every 5 hours as long as they have the funds in their account. hope this was enough info

My bro is in there. What can I send in packages?

I know it has to be off the hook in there. " The Bing " is full out tough dudes. Just thinking about it makes me put a package together. I hope you all do your best to support your loved ones in there.
