I wish I would have known about the site a long time ago (heard that one before?). Someone from college was at Avenal (in the middle of beautiful middle of nowhere California!) and having the insights of folks here would have made that experience much better. (I'm having an age moment here, I don't think the Internet was around then!). Oh, well! :-)

After a second round of writing to inmates (my first round had me picking each and every one that was using a PenPal for the sole purpose of getting money -- interesting experience!). This second time around has me corresponding with a young man from Arizona who still has 3 years of a 10.5 year sentence. The universe had a way of turning my PenPal experience around this time to make up for the first round.

I have a lot to learn, and after reading so many accounts here, my heart goes out to the friends, families and loved ones of those inside (as well, as those on the inside). I'm feeling some of the same kinds of angst I read about, towads my friend in Arizona.

Thanks in advance for the help -- this place is great!
