Hi! I am new to this and hoped someone could fill me in on "background" checks? My Thomas said one would have to be done before he could get my mail, etc. He is in Elmore, AL with a release date of Jan.5,2008. Any info at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Kim

I think the background checks are done for the purpose of phone/visitation/funds list. If I am not mistaken they can receive mail from anyone as long as it is not someone in another prison system. It usually takes about 2 weeks for these list to be approved. He will need your SS# and DOB.

The background check is for the visitation/funds list. He can put you on his phone list with just your phone number and he can receive mail from anyone, except another inmate or someone in the prison system.
