I am hoping to go see my friend for the first time next month @ the USP, can anyone give mem any info about the surrounding area as far where to stay. More importantly any info about the prison itself (need to know & just want to share) would all be appreciated.
Is the only airport the Int'L airport in Indianapolis? About how far is the facility? Is any familiar with the area?

Thanks,
Emani

Pls excuse the interrogative format but I have so much to ask.:D

indianapolis is only about an hour from terre haute, depending on traffic...

there's several hotels around...i have stayed at comfort suites, econolodge, and pear tree inn there..both econolodge and pear tree are less expensive than comfort suites...i would not stay at knights inn, i had a false positive from the ion machine after staying there (luckily i got a negative second so i still got in, but still, i never took chances to go back)...the three hotels i listed are all directly to the right off of the freeway, very easy to get to and almost a straight shot to the prison, you take Margaret all the way until it dead ends and then turn left at the dead end and the prison will be on the right about 1-2 miles up.

I also suggest eating at Bostons Gourmet Pizza which is on 41 a couple miles past the mall, it's the best pizza i have ever had in my life.

i definately suggest being extremely cautious about the ion machine, use sanitary alcohol swabs on your hands and do not touch ANY money before you go in (i usually don't touch it for 24 hours, i put it in a plastic bag the night before)...i have seen grandparents denied, children denied, and women that were just in teh day before denied...i've seen way too many people cry...i think it's somewhere around 75% of money has traces of drugs on them.

Ahhh Margaret Street. I took that road also, staying right on it at the Super 8. Usually pretty cheap, clean and quiet. It's right behind the Bob Evans restaurant, off the main drag on Margaret. My guy was at the camp, so we didn't have to go through the ion testing, but I never had any problems other than a broken a/c (on a hot, hot, HOT) day, and they moved me right away.
I always drove down, but I do think that TH has a small airport of it's own, more for commuter flights than commercial. If it hadn't been for the circumstances I was there for each time, Terre Haute would have been a nice place to visit with lots of things to see. The Holocaust museum is right off the main drag, too, on the left.
