Son sentenced to 8 months for marijuana possession. He pled at special court martial. What are the chances of clemency/sentence reduction. He is an Airman.

Puglover,
Given that your son's sentence is only 8 months, probably not a lot of clemency will be given. Sentencing credits will be applied (any time spent confined prior to the courts-martial and any credit he accrues as he serves his time). I'm not sure of the amount, or even if an 8 month sentence qualifies, but generally a certain amount of days are deducted based on the length of the sentence and they accrue monthly - effectively reducing the maximum time to serve. He should have been told his MRD (minimum release date) when he was processed after conviction. Have him talk to the facility or contact his attorney. Hope this info is helpful.

I love my Airman, too! :0) Brandon is at USDB, though, in Kansas.

I would like information about clemency, too, though. He was denied clemency at Barksdale AFB, La., and now it's at the USDB level. What all does that mean? Is his hearing open to family, or not?

Thanks for the support and I'm sorry about your Airman, Puglover.
