Has anyone had any luck speaking to a real live person about services? My son's friend said she called at 7:30 am and talked to someone. I understand if you send a money order to the new service it is cheaper.

My brother is at Limestone and he mentioned something like this to my mom. We weren't sure what it was either.

I am trying to find out also....Right now I know all state prisons got new phones installed...When my hubby called the recording still says correctional billing/tnetix, so i wonder who this new company is and when will they take over the phones????

When my fiance calls from Easterling the recording says Global-Tel...(I THINK?!?!?) Is that the same company that's been handling the phone service.

I think it is the same service that he had at one of the local jails. Be sure to get a refund from the old service if one is due

Globel Tel Link is what it now says in the message? It's just a name change and your billing will not change but will remain the same.

My son's friend said if you mail a money order your will not have to pay the 20% SURCHARGE.

I've also heard Global Tel-Link. I wonder when/how that will effect the pre-pay customers? I hate to add money to my account...then the srevice be changed & have to set up another account. Seems like we would have more information.

Almost Sept. & was wondering if anyone knew when in Sept. the phone changes take effect? Switching from T-Netix to GTL. I guess I'll go ahead & get the account set up now. From what I've read on the boards....people have been having a really difficult time with GTL. I don't want to wait untill the last minute...then go through a bunch of BS...& not be able to talk. I'll call today then let you all know how it turns out.

There were new phones installed in my husband's dorm about a week ago, but they are just awful! They are full of static and you can barely hear anything. Is anyone else having this problem? My husband is at Limestone CF..

Childersburg is having the same problems and you sound like a robot talking. Some of the inmates are calling the guy that talks and asks you to accept the calls "Bob Barker".

My fiance is at ECF and after being there only a few weeks, I now have to prepay. I wonder why? They were billing my phone company but, when he called the other night it said if I want to accept this call I put prepay. Does anyone know why it did this? Is there a max amount a month and if so how long does it take to start over. Or does it reset every time I pay my phone bill?

Please think twice before changing I live in Montgomey Al.Christmas Day was awful all the women at tutwiler were crying my daughter called 4 times we might have got to say hey and then we were cut off.called globel Tel got no decent answer. Told me to tell my daughter to tell the officer I 'm sure he or she knew there are 160 women in her dorm very upset and you know you don't want to rock the boat and right now my daughter is doing good . I may call the warden and see where that will get me I am not sure right now .

Debbie this also happened at Elmore Christmas Eve and Christmas. You know it costs 2.75 the first minute and that's about as long as the phone would stay connected. I feel it was done so they all would keep calling and Globel Tel would rack up and take advantage of the calls coming through. They knew our loved ones would try to keep calling, so they made more money. We had this happen about nine times these 2 days, so if this happened to all the prisons they racked up on these calls.I feel commissioner Allen and Govenor Riley should check into this and we should not be billed for these calls. I don't know who decided to switch to this company but the calls cut out while talking and you end up having to repeat what you say until the minutes are up and you really haven't got to say anything. It's nothing but a scam and another way to make money off the families who are already struggling to make ends meet. If this has happened to you maybe we should all write Commissioner Allen and Govenor Riley and let them know how we are being done with this company. It won't do any good to call Globel Tel because they know we have to use them and they are really smart alecks about the situation, they WILL Not credit you for those phone calls. So maybe the Commissioner or the Govenor can do something about us being charged for those 2 days. Anyone else out there have this happen to them? I'm ready to send e-mails to whoever we need to get something done about this RIP-OFF and this companies attitude towards us having to use them.

Hello,
My husband is at Fountain in
Atmore and the same thing happened for two days at christmas. He tried four times on the cell number and three or four times on a land line at his moms. We never did get to say anything but hello and i didnt hang up. I was so upset. My birthday is the day after christmas and i did not get to hear him tell me hello. I hate this new phone system. I had no trouble out of the old system. I get charged 295 for the connection fee and my call is 8.00 for 15 min. I can't take many but i was really heart broke.

well, my fiance is at st. clair. our calls get disconnected all the time. not just on christmas. my fiance told me he cant hear me but i can hear everything he is saying. i tried calling gtl and yes they get smart about it. they told me to contact the prison bc it is the phone. well, obviously there is something wrong with all of the phones since they took over  they are making alot of money off of this and they dont care that our loved ones cant talk to us.

Oh yeah, my fiance & I have been having problems with this whole phone system thing, too!! He's at Easterling and whenever he calls...the connection seems to be horrible! He can very seldom hear me...and alot of times, I have trouble hearing him, too!! I HATE IT!!! He tried calling me on Christmas day, as well...the phones cut out on us, too!! He called his parent's house and got through just fine...but, when he tried calling me...the phone cut out before the call was connected!! So, I never did get to talk to him on Christmas day!! Soloswoman...let us know how it goes when you contact them!!!

Well with my daughter back inside and not talking to me since August it was sure a surprise when we get a call from a prisoner at a work release center and that I needed to prepay something or other...I assumed it was a long distance call prepay system. Just over a year ago she was able to call me in Blount County from both Tutwiler and the Birmigham Work Release and I was billed on my Otelco phone bill 6.95 for 15 min. Guess that is all changed.
Seems to me...According to a past member...LOL Maybe us Alabamaians need to get our loved ones to boycott the phones for a week and see how this new company likes the drop in sales, then contact the individual wardens as to why we have done this. I wonder if all the inmates who call other places outside of Alabama are having the same trouble? You could check this out by mail. I have read or heard in the past that a certain percentage of these phone call collection in moneys is sent to each prison and applied to programs within the prisons for the inmates.
To bad we couldnt get an accounting for said "programs" and who all is eligible to participate in them....

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR I am really mad for all of you!!!!!

Come on lace let start a bandwagon I am oh so ready!

We too had this problem on Christmas (he's in Holman). VERY, VERY disheartening! After about 100 attempts (over several hours & many accepted calls losing $$$$ just to be immediately disconected) we were abe to talk for like 2 minutes! Bless his heart, he said "I love you! Merry Christmas!" The second it connected...just to try & get a word in before it cutt off again. I'm in TN...receiving his calls fom AL.

I had the problem on Christmas too! It was awful! He kept calling thinking I was hanging up on him! They should really work harder on fixing this instead of blaming the prison phones!!! I did get to talk to him the day after christmas but it wasnt the same! He said it ruined Christmas for him and had looked forward to talking to me all day! He got so mad he thought he broke his hand on the phone! We would talk for like a minute and then it would cut us off. Plus they charged me for the whole 15 minutes! This has went too far! $25 for 4 minutes and they wouldnt credit it back to me!

hello everyone,
i am in the process of launching a lawsuit with gtl. in the mean time please write to your senators ,congressmen/women governors, those who are over the doc for your state. i may also try and get the aclu involved. abc, nbc, cbs cnn news. we have to try and get the word out.at least im trying to go by the chain of command. but if push comes to shove(and it has)the powers that be is messing with a CHILD OF THE LIVING GOD.I WILL KEEP YOU POSTED. IT IS A GOOD IDEA TO BOYCOTT GTL:thumbsup: im gain, what about you?and i mean country wide say for like a week or more. lets see if we will be heard and changes made.

My fiance tried calling all night...UNFORTUNATELY, I had to work!! I just changed shifts not too long ago...and, he's not completely adjusted *lol*!! Plus, he knows I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE New Year's Eve and usually don't/won't work...but, no way out of it this year! I hate that I missed my call! I'm assuming the phones weren't messing up today like they were last week!!!

I am planning on contacting Gov.Riley and anyone else I can. We all need to stop Globel Tel they are a rip off.

Suthrndreamgirl
01-02-2008, 12:16 PM
Yeah, GTL is a rip off! But at this point, what choice do we have (but pull together) if we want contact with our loved ones? I believe the way they see it is that they KNOW we'll use their sysytem (at any cost)...so sock it to 'em! I'm sure their response would be "You don't HAVE to accept calls if you can't afford it". BS!

The phone company is getting paid. Especially since most folks have a cell and don't even have a house phone!
