Hi there,
I am new to this forum, wow what an amazing thing to find!

If anyone could help me on this one,,
I have a friend who is serving time(3mths) at the Brig at Camp LeJuene NC, I am trying to maintain correspondence with him and I know he is hoping to do the same with me.
Does anyone know
- if international stamps/posting of letters is possible from there?
- if not, am i able to send him international postage stamps or prepaid envelopes via an online USPS order?
- if there are certain guidelines for me mailing him at that facility? ie what i can/cant include, and am i able to send him photos or will my mail be returned/not delivered?
Also from what I have read, I am guessing he would have some kind of a money account, does anyone have any tips/advice for how I can apply money to this from overseas?
I'd really, really appreciate any advice, thoughts, web links, anything?! - regarding mail and Camp Le Jeune,
lastly if phone cards are available for purchase there or if I can purchase one for him/post him the details ?
thanks so much in advance! ems

shescrafty,
Welcome to prison talk. As for your questions I can answer a few but not all.
The internation postage I am not sure of but will inquire with the x inmate and get back to you. I know I was not allowed to send my son postage or pre-paid envelopes but he could purchase them @ the brig. As for the money account they will only accept money orders payable to the inmate and I believe they have a monthly alowance but I'm not sure of the amount. We could send photos, cards, post cards. The photos cannot be sexual nor can the letters be too sexual or they will be sent back. I have also sent prayer cards along with letters too! They can get magazines and books but they have to come from the warehouse, you can't buy them and send them out yourself and watch the content. I did ask my son about phone cards and he said they only alow the collect calls and if your phone company won't bill you for them they will block your number.
Hope the 3 months fly for both of you.

Hi Mombert,
Thank you so much for your reply..
I'm in a slightly unique situation in that I don't really have any other connections in the USA, so sourcing any information has been incredibly difficult, as an overseas relation..
I'd already tried doing my homework by scaling the internet for any information, I'd noticed a few posts re. Camp LeJeune on this godsend of a forum ! - but couldn't find the answers to my questions.

Any advice or information means the world to me, particularly if he has access to international stamps, and any experience with sending money orders - if you or anyone else could comment further on that, I would be soo grateful.
Any general insights on the Brig at Camp LeJeune would also be an incredible help.
And thanks for your support, I was very close to this friend and miss his daily calls! One day at a time... :)
Thanks again(!!!) to yourself and anyone else for taking the time to comment here...

shescraftey,
My son told me that he will be allowed to buy extra postage @ the brig so that he can mail overseas. I guess they have inmates with familys in Mexico, Canada etc. so it is not really something new to them.
As for information on the brig it's self as long as your man keeps his nose clean he should be ok. I do know they have no hot water for showers (or at least not from the 2nd floor up, that's a bummer) and as far as I know haven't had any for @ least 4 years now. Luck would have it that they did install air conditioning last fall so at least he will be somewhat comfortable. My son said the food was ok and the company wasn't too bad. Always a "LARGE AND INCHARGE" guard to be found (if you know what I mean) but there are idiot's everywhere. They have a chaplin come in on wed. so if he is religious he can go to service. Mon thru Fri. they have 3 meals but on Saturday and Sunday only 2. They have tv and sometimes they watch new release dvd's. All rules apply in the brig as do in the unit. Hair cuts, shaven, etc. but the uniform is not nearley as nice. Orange cotton top and orange cotton bottoms with lots of ventelation. (Holes :)) most of the guys have to where there boots and blouse the pants but some are alowed to where tennis shoes. Any of the guys that havent been convicted yet are in light blue so you can always tell who is new. As far as sending the money orders I just went to the bank, bought a money order, made it payable to him and put it in the mail just like I was sending him a letter. If it is not possable to get american curancy money orders you might want to put in a call to the brig and inquire. The gal that takes care of the accounts for them is very helpful.
Do you have the address for the brig? How about the phone #? If not PM me and I'll get it for you.
Take care,
Mombert

Shescrafty,
Hello and welcome to PTO and the military forum. Yes, you can go online to the USPS.gov website and buy stamps to be delivered to him. I do that for my son and have never had a problem. You can send a money order (Western Union, Postal, etc.) I buy mine at the post office, WalMart, and other places and have never had a problem with any of them. I don't have any insight as to the particular brig, sorry. Any other general questions and I'll be happy to try to answer. Keep in touch with your friend no matter how you do it. My son says mail is the best gift of all. Keep the faith, and yes, one day at a time...

Just found out last Friday 2/22/08 that my son was going into the brig at Camp LeJeune. I was wondering if anyone can help me with how to send a letter to him. I don't know any info. no prisoner id# or anything, do I need this before I can send anything? And anyone with an address, I would sure appreciate knowing where to send.

Thanks so much for this forum!

OC Mom,
Welcome to the forum! I don't think sending mail to him without an inmate number will work. You can call the brig visitation office and they may be able to help you. Somewhere on the forum is the answer to your question, or someone will come along and answer it soon!
