Surely there are others here in this worldwide prison audience we have that have an avid interest in the classical performing arts. I would be most interested in hearing how you keep your skills up.
I myself was raised in a home full of classical piano and have recently begun my studies up again. I took for twelve years and while I have always loved it, it had to take second place to raising my children and now that that is done I find myself in a place where I can now take it up again.
I am very rusty, but I am fortunate to live in a city where one of the finest performing arts schools are, the University of Oklahoma City, so I have begun private piano lessons there. They are starting out slow, which is perfect for me. So, are there any others who are trying to refine their skills along with working and finding time for our prison lives as well?

Hi JKB's Girl,

I am so jealous of people like you. How I wish had some natural musical talent. I've tried, but I'm now resigned to the fact that I was born to be part of the audience who appreciates and supports the arts. Don't give up on it. I hope you'll find many rewarding hours as you expand and refine your talents. I will always be among those who applaud.

Take care, SunnyChick

I love classical music. When I was little that was all that was ever played at my home. My favorite composer is Vivaldi. I took piano lessons for many years and I play the trombone. My daughter plays the flute and the harp.

The trombone, how cool is that!!!! I would love someday to learn another instrument, but for now, the piano is enough of a challenge, lol!!!!

And sunny, I totally understand how you feel. My Kenny is an extremely gifted artist and for some unknown reason he suffers under the delusion that he can teach me to paint!!!! Whatever!!!! While I would love to have that ability, it has always been beyond my reach, and thats okay. I still love art and just because I don't have the ability to create the way he does I can still appreciate it.

I don't limit myself to classical music, I must admit to loving classic rock as well, after all I was born in the 60's and was a teen in the 70's, lmao.

I do think that having an appreciation for classical music can make a person more well rounded in a sense. I'm glad to see there are at least one or two of us!!!

I love classical music (as well as all other genres, and I mean all). I, myself, play piano/flute/piccolo/tin whistle/baritone/a little trumpet, and I sing (3.5 octave range). I was a music ed major and then switched to poli sci.

I still love to keep up with my music though, and it helps to pass the time while my husband is away. I go down to the basement and play my favorite pieces. I also have some software called Sibelius but I'm pretty sure it's only available for Mac users. I use it to compose music for piano, choirs, orchestras, etc. And that keeps me really busy too because it is quite time consuming.

Another way to keep up, is to take some lessons (even if you feel you are advanced, there is always more to learn and someone who is better than you). :-)
