Hello All,

I am brand new to this site and new to having a spouse in prision. My wife was senteced to 13 years on June 22nd in Judge Marion Humphrey's court. She was transferred to the Pulaski County Detention Center in Little Rock. She is in her mid-thrities and has had some high blood pressure problems recently. During intake, her BP was 185/145 which is at a dangerous level. She was not allowed to take in her BP med's and they did not give her any. On the following Thursday night she was admittled into the ICU at SW Regional, transferred Sat to St. Vincent and was placed on a respirator in multi-organ failure. She was not expected to live but she is a fighter and did. She was transfered to the Diagnostic Unit a couple of weeks ago. Her kidneys did not work so she has been on dialysis. Her liver enzyme levels are now stable but after she awoke from being in a comma for 7-9 days, she had pretty much lost her memory. She did not know she had children, did not know her parents or me. While in the hospital, we had a pass to go see her on a daily basis.
She is now at Hawkins Unit for Women. I have not heard from her since her transfer there on Friday. I assume they are transporting her for dialysis but don't know.
That is my story in brief. We have a 6 month old child at home and I am worried sick because she has been so ill.
Thanks for listening.

Hello Bat,

First of all let me welcome another gentleman to Arkansas PTO.

Your story sounds AWFUL! You can bet that all of us here will pray for your situation.

Do you know if your wife regained any memory before they transferred her?

Have you called Hawkins' warden to check on your wife?

Once again, welcome and we will pray for you and your wife.

Yikes! You must find and develop a support network; for her, for you, the rest of the family and the kids. Being sick in the ADC is not a positive experience. Sorry. Good Luck.

I harped on the medical director at diagnostics when my son first went into intake. He was on medication for high blood pressure while in county jail and did not get any medication when he went to diagnostics. I notified the medical director and Mr Norris that hypertension is a serious medical condition and I am in the medical field and if anything should happen to my son because of no treatment there would be a lawsuit and lots of media attention. He did get his medication thereafter. I am sorry for what has happened to your wife. If there is documentation she has hypertension and it was untreated, it is malpractice short and simple. I hope you have an attorney or will get one soon. I know it won't bring back her health but maybe they will think twice before neglecting her again. It is such a sad story. I can only imagine what you are going through. My thoughts are with you.

Thanks so much for all of the comments and support. I am glad that I found this site. All of the problems that occured happend at the county level and things have been better medically in ADC. The Doctor at the Diagnostic Unit is trying to figure out why this occured so that it does not happen again. I also have to say that the ladies I spoken with at the Diagnostic Unit have been as helpful as they can be.

She is going out for her treatments and she is trying to adjust, etc. I am now looking forward to my first phone call and visit. I haven't seen her in two weeks, since she was in the hospital in Little Rock.

Thanks again and I am learning alot from this message board and look forward every evening to reading new posts.
