Yes, if the family is unable to put money on his books he will be provided paper, envelopes and other essentials that he needs. You cannot sent anything other than money and books and magazines from an approved vendor. Hopefully, other guys will pass on books and such to him. Lots of guys do that. Try not to worry, he will be fine!!!

Wait family can send books by an approved vendor. Money can be sent how? is there a limit? how will they know? or do I have to call? My brother is in there he was transferred on July 17 and I don't know where to start. Your postings have helped I need to read them over.
Thank You
Saracat

Hastings and Barnes/Noble are the ones I use to send books and magazines. You can call the unit if you have a question about whether certain books will be accepted. I use www.jpay.com (http://www.jpay.com) to send money. I have sent anywhere from 20.00 to 200.00 with no problem. You don't need to call when you send money. He will know.

Saracat,
I usually use Barnes and Noble to send books. I have never had any problems and I just do it online. As for sending money, I have used JPay and we finally just set up a bank account in his name and we just let them draft a certain amount each month for his TDCJ account. That really works great for us. He knows how much money comes each month and he adjusts accordingly. I also use Amazon sometimes to send books but Barnes and Noble gets them there quicker. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for responding. I am just trying to figure everything out slowwly.....I called today but unfortunately I called seven minutes after four oclock and could not find out if he is eligible for visits. The lady said I could only call on Fridays between 8 and 4. Oh well, now I know. I wish I could call during the week and find out. I will write to him and let him know we are trying to get our id's/liscenses in order since we recently moved and have no idea what information or who he wrote down for visitations if any? I read somewhere he could not write to us until after two weeks... its been such a hectic month.

I like your poem zagava1 it was just what I needed to read right now:)

First of all, I call any day of the week to find out about visitation. If you put in for a special visit they tell you to call on Friday to see if it was approved, but if just for a normal visit or to ask other questions you can call anytime. You can also call to see what address he put down for you. I just did this last week because we moved and wanted to make sure the addresses matched. He doesn't have to wait to write you - if he doesn't have money on his books they will give him a few sheets of paper and envelopes. Have you put money on his books yet so he can make commissary? I use www.jpay.com (http://www.jpay.com)

Ok visited with my boyfriend yesterday.. his money still hasn't caught up with him so we put some in through ACE so when he gets to go Wednesday he will have it.

I ask him about what he got... 5 envelopes, 5 pieces of typing paper, 5 stamps, toothbrush, powder stuff to brush teeth.... NO Deodorant. He seemed really down this week I thought Middleton would be better than Dallas county but now I am not sure. Even though he gets to go outside which is something he missed at DC he just kept saying how bad this sucks. It was great to see him but now I am fighting hard to maintain my positive attitude about things... I never realized how one person being incarcerated could affect so many people and how it affects them emotionally and mentally.

Hopefully, he will settle down in a few days. It just takes time to get use to a new unit. I know what you mean - when you see them depressed, you get depressed, but you need to try your best to keep his spirits up!!
