I found out earlier this week that my older nephew has cancer. They've done a biopsy (of his nose) and are waiting for results. i.e., type and stage of cancer. My nephew who is PA prison is his younger brother. I'm wondering how to brooch the subject with him in a letter.

Or would it be better to tell him about his older brother's cancer during a phone conversation?

The brothers are fairly close and I know he would want to know. I also debate saying or writing anything until we know the biopsy results, since this will dictate what, if any additional treatments, may be needed, like chemotherapy and/or radiation.

I really want to tell him but want to upset him as little as possible. Thanks for your input.

Can't anyone tell him this information in person... His brother, perhaps? Is he bed-ridden? This shouldn't be done in a letter...and preferrably not over the phone.
