Do they take pictures inside? My man is at Beaumont Texas and has sent me some pictures with dates on them. They are quite recent, is it possible to take pictures in there? I guess what Im trying to find out is were these pictures printed on the date shown or actually taken then? I have quite a few...:D

I haven't heard of offenders being able to take pictures except on certain visitation days. At that time they are allowed to have a poloroid picture made with their family members for $3. I'm guessing they were made on the outside and developed after he went in.

If it's a polaroid they could have had them taken at visitation. Inmates can take pictures by themselves at visitation if their family members pay for it. If they aren't polaroids they had to be pictures from before prison.

Another consideration is: Is he in Federal Prison which has a completely different set of rules nd regulations. I know that there is a Federal Unit in Beaumont. I have no reason to know if they allow photos there but they sure do have a lot of diferent rules than does TDCJ.

Actually, sometimes pictures are taken inside the unit, mainly by the school. Say an inmate in a vocational class has just finished welding a huge BBQ pit, the instructor may take a picture of it for the echo and give the inmate a copy. It isn't uncommon for the school to take a picture of an inmate when he goes through the GED graduation ceremony. But as far as inmates have access to cameras. I feel the answer is a definite NO!

On another thought, at my hubby's unit they are now requiring each inmate to have his name and # printed on the back of each of his pictures. Poor hubby, he loves pictures and probably has 3 photo albums full. He said it took him a couple of hours to put his info on the back of all his pictures, but he wasn't about to be made to throw any of them away. His pictures are his mental escape. So now, when I send a pic I go ahead and write his name and number on the back for him. :)

Karengrovo,
That is a good head's up and just in general a GREAT tip. We are always sending pic to my hubby and it never occurred to me to do that...another reason...in case the mailroom in their "wonderful" inspection process separated a pic...it might insure that it is delivered vs. trashed....
