My boyfriend was just recently placed in the brig at Camp Lejeune on Friday (July 13 -- Friday the 13 how appropriate right?) I was just wondering if anyone has had problems in the past receiving collect calls to a cell phone, or if it's even possible. I've never needed to take a collect call on my cell phone before so it's never been an issue. I'm not even sure that I'll need to now, but just in case he doesn't set up an account and put his own money in there before he calls. I'm so used to talking to him everyday (except when he was deployed) that the last 3 days have been really hard, so if I miss talking to him because of a cell phone I'm going to be pissed!

Any help is appreciated, thank you!

Hi gurlygirl!

I can tell you that in the military confinement center that my son is in, all collect calls have to go to land lines. I'm not sure how other branches work, but I think it is true for all military confinement because of the extensive tracking that the phone service company has to monitor the calls.
I am new to this site, but I check it daily to see if anyone is posting. My son is a new inmate at Ft. Lewis RCF in Wash., I sent him a money order so that he can call home and it is less expensive than collect calls.

If I were you, I would try to find a number for the facility that your husband is in, and talk to the warden or who ever is in charge of the inmates. They have been very helpful where my son is at.

My heart goes out to you, I can imagine the pain and loss you are feeling. Good luck with your search for info. and take this one day at a time.

I am new to this. My husband was sent to Fort Knox on Friday 18th for pretiral confinement. I sent money order and phone card. They took away his bible and prayer book even though they said that I could send it. I am in Kansas. It is so far away and I know that he is as scared as I am. Does anyone have some one that they talk to hear. I am desperate for news of my husband

My husband was at Camp Pendleton but recently transferred to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He tried to call my cell phone collect from Kansas but cell phones dont get collect calls. He has to call a land line collect. He had money that was leftover from his account at Pendleton so he used some of that for his phone account in Kansas but I had to wait almost a week for them to set up his account and transfer the money into it.

I am desperate for news of my husband I would imagine that they have the rule of "no books unless they come from a warehouse" I don't know of anyone that has been able to send a book to there loved one, even if it's a bible. You can order on online and have it shipped directly to him and they will have to give it to him. I don't know about the phone card thing cause the only way my boy could ever call from Lejeune was collect. He was in for quite some time so I set up a prison calls account and it saved us a bunch. I don't know if these calls can go to a cell phone cause they are forwarded from a virtual number.
ex..My boy called a local phone # and it was automaticlly forwarded to our home phone.
