Deadwood Conservation Camp # 23 17148 McAdams Creek Road Fort Jones 96032. 530- 468-2633. FAX. 530-468-2892

1.) Deadwood maintains a staff of eight Correctional Officers, one Correctional Sergeant, and one Correctional Lieutenant for the CDCR division. The Cal Fire staff includes eight Fire Crew Captains, one Heavy Equipment Operator, one Stationary Engineer, and one Assistant Chief.
2.) The design capacity of the camp is eighty minimum- custody male convicted
felons. Currently the camp has eighty-five inmates.
3.) Inmates in the camp live in open dormitories. There are typically two
inmates per area and each area has two beds and a locker-style cabinet. Personal items and clothing are kept in this unlocked cabinet.
4.) The staff counts inmates at least every two hours, whether they are on site or at a project.

I don't have any information for you as far as visiting etc about this particular camp hopefully some one will come along and post that does know. BTW you can call the camp and they will tell you about the rules and regulations regarding visiting and what to bring for visits. The CO's at the camps are usually very helpful and cordial to people that call for information. Sorry, that I couldn't help you with this any further.

Have a Merry Christmas

You're welcome:) Most Fire Camp Visits are basically the same, other then some allow home cooked meals and others don't along with dress codes. Please read Fire Camp Visiting Information ( thread to get a idea how visits are in the camps. Hopefully more people will add information to that thread about camps that they visit which would make it a lot easier for people. Yes,hopefully some one will come to this thread that visit at Deadwood that you'll have something in common with to chat. Other then that the ladies around here are a chatty bunch at times just because you have a son in camp and they have boyfriends and husbands one way or another we all have something in common. So,don't be a stranger or feel left out :D

:haphols: to you too:)

Mrs. JDH,

Where was your husband before getting sent to Deadwood. I have a son at Susanville that was to go to Deadwood before a glich with the holidays and training and a lockdown. He is suppose to hear tomorrow where they are to send him and from one of the other gals who"s husband is there said it is a great place. How long after training did your husband get moved? I hope now that my son will get sent there.

Hi Mrs. JDH,

No word from my son as yet, he said that he would call Tues. or Wed. and should know which camp they are sending him to .......Its killing me because I always worry that something has happened till I hear from him. Will keep you posted when I hear and maybe they will be in the same place. Happy New Year

Mrs. Jdh.....What is a 115 and why did he transfer to another camp?

01-04-2009, 12:22 PM
Timeless-A 115 is a write-up for an infraction that was committed which causes some one to get transfered from Fire Camp back to a regular prison or,to another camp depending on the severity. Inmates in regular prisons get written up too.

ok my guy called and said he got moved 2 Deadwood...He said all calls are recorded and he said he would say how he feels about that place but cant...He couldnt say much and it was hard reading between the lines....I take it he got a 115....they sent him back to Susanville and then they sent him over to Deadwood Thursday...He also said ONLY family members can visit, so looks like I wont be going....If anyone has any feedback about the camp; please drop a line.....have a great Sunday....

I have never heard of that rule about only family memebers being able to visit. As long as you have been approved you should be able to visit. He might be getting it mixed up with FV's. If it was me I would call the camp and ask them myself just so you know for sure. From what I understand Deadwood is not a displanary camp so the rules should be basically the same as any other camp and at all camps as long as you are approved you can go and visit.

05-31-2009, 03:44 PM
I've never heard of that rule only family members can visit an inmate in prison either. As long has you have an approval notice you should be approved at any facility. However,if the camp requires you to fill out another visiting notice please do so. You can not be denied visits if there is no cause to do so family or not.

Can anyone tell me how soon i can send my hubby his dressouts? Is there anywhere i can read what i can and cant send? Thanks for the info!

01-07-2010, 09:00 AM
I always thought it was 30 days before his release date, but I found out from my guy at his camp you could do it 90 days before. Your best bet would be to call the camp and ask them. I know that at my guys camp when the dressouts got there they let him go down to the office and try them on to make sure they fit. I know of one girl whose guy tried on his stuff to find out they did not fit. He was able to send them back and get new stuff sent in.

As for what you can send, basically it is a full set of clothing. I have always sent a pair of jeans, a shirt (depending on the time of year i have sent tshirts and sweaters), boxers, socks, belt, shoes, and a jacket. I have never heard of any restrictions on what you can send. Again to be on the safe side you can always call the camp.

Since all Fire Camps are still under the jurisdiction of the CDCR, they still follow the bulk of the rules for visiting and family visits established by the CDCR. However dress codes in some camps may be more relaxed then other institutions. Below are 2 links with specific information. Please note some camps will allow home cooked meals and some only allow store bought foods for regular visits. For Family Visits in some camps the food have to be ordered from the institution others do not. Not all camps offer Family Visits. Please check with the camp prior to your visit for rules and regulations etc. If you have any new and updated information on this particular camp please share in this thread so others can benefit.

Thank you

Deadwood Camp is a smaller one than most. They usually only house about 85 people compared to over 100 in other camps. They have a hobby room, game room, tv room, indoor weights. The camp is very clean and is very easy going.

does anyone know what are the items allowed to take into family visits

Generally in most camps that have family visits you can bring your own food and prepare it there sense they do have cooking facilities. The only camp that I can remember if it is still that way were you have to order your food from the prison is Antelope sense those family visits are on prison grounds.
Here is a thread on regular and family visits that may give you some information. I don't know if someone posted about Deadwood Camp in that thread. Click here (
