I hope everyone had a good fourth. Last year at this time, I was at DWR and it was HOT. 7 days later, I went to ECF.
Remember your loved ones, write them a little note and send it off with a stamp. Stamps have little or no value in prison except in trade. Think of it as buying them a shot of coffee if they dont write back immediately.

Hello - Formerly ALDOC
Thank you for letting people know that a stamp can be traded for very little things. I sometimes forget that. When I sent my son his package he told me he traded something I had sent. At first it made me mad until he told me the other guy needed the lotion worse than he needed it. Many of us do not know what it is to just make it through the day where you have been. Good Luck and Stay Strong!!!! Hopefully, my son will be home next week. I hope you also had a good July 4th with many more to come.

Afternoon all,
To add to the previous note, I was shocked and dismayed at the lack of writing that occurred to the home, friends and family. I learned that it (lack thereof) was more common with those that had been hardened to and by the system. It is most regrettable that so many enter the sytem with little or no support and walk out with even less. Most importantly, that being the emotional and to some extent minor financial support from family.
In my 12 mos. of incarceration, I wrote some 1196 pages home. It was most cathartic for me and gave my family a piece of mind. They also visited ECF every 6 weeks or so, even though the drive was some 41/2 hours. So, if you have the opportunity, try and visit, or send a note. Most everyone will lie and tell you its no big deal....that is a lie. They need the friend or familial contact. If they don't get it, they can become "hardened & bitter" by it all.
I was also surpirsed that there were many men who could not write and even those that could not read. Fortunately, a few of us took the opportunity to help them.
I hope you all have a good weekend.
RD
