Normally they try to transfer them within 30 days of their sentencing. But, like everything else it does not always happen. The county jails want them out ASAP. It was about 28 days from my son's sentencing before they transferred him. You do not have any warning when they move them. You just have to wait to hear from them. My son was able to call the day he got to Kilby. I don't know that calling anyone would rush it up. I will add you and your son to my prayer list.

They are all under a federal court order to send them out to be processed within 30 days but it's just not happening even after the lawsuit. There is no room for them in prison because the parole board does very little paroling out so where are they going to go? Until the federal government steps in and starts releases it's only going to get worse before it ever gets better...most of us have been waiting for years for the feds to do something about the overcrowding issue and we are still waiting...

The one post is correct, there is a court order to move them as soon as possible after sentencing. I believe the magic number is 30 days. However, Kilby, the processing center, is way over crowded as are ALL the prisons in the ADOC system. However, don't always hope that you will get what you ask for in your son's case. Depending on his case and classification, he may be better off in the County Jail system than at one of the ADOC facilities. Again, it depends on where he is now and where they send him.
Of course, you will not know he has been sent until he calls you from Kilby. Most Jails lock down the phones the night before and morning of transport A note to the think about is that they (jails) do not often let you take personal effects. But, they will let you take a bible, a personal book and stamps. All of which he can use for trade and barter when he gets there. They also let you in with tennis shoes (80% white) and a watch (less than $25 declared value). Sometimes the jail will let you take soap and or shampoo. And, many times they will let you get it into Kilby if it is clear and the guard at receiving can see through the bottle and soap. But, I'm not sure if your sons jail allows you to get him these things.
Think about trying to make sure he has at least one of those with him. He may need it. Good Luck.

My fiancee will be in the county jail 30 days Tuesday. He hasn't received his time sheet yet. His lawyer said he has no idea when they will send him out. He is sooo ready to go. He is in a very small cell and only gets to call me every other day. I wish they would hurry and come get him.

Thanks for all that responded... I do appreciate it, I just rarely have the time to come to this site or even be on my computer, But the way I feel is that this is most likely the place to find others who have the same pain as me, And that really understand how it hurts to see the one you love locked up. It really helps me... And I do plan on visiting more often Thanks so much
