Hey
My husband will be moving to Don jail. He is currently in isolation at Maplehurst. And now he will be another isolation unit at Don jail. I've heard so many terrible things about Dons. I'm freaking out! And i'm ticked at the transfer.
How are the guards? Are they terrible. Maplehurst doesn't seem so bad. It's actually pretty good for a prison. How is Don compared to Maplehurst? I know Don is overcrowded but I don't think it will have any affect on my husband as he will be in isolation. Is the food bad??? How is the visiting and the calls? Is it safe to take kids there to visit their father?
Can someone let me know ASAP. He might be there by the weekend!
Thanks!

Maplehurst and The Don Jail are both provincial jails not prison. The visits at The Don are behind glass and you talk over the telephones. Maplehursts visits are in an open visiting room and its a much better place. Things seem to be reversed for some reason in your husbands case.....usually you go to The Don first then get transferred to Maplehurst.... does he have more charges coming up or something?
Yes you can take your kids to visit their father. Jail food is crappy in all jails and prisons.......

It is very difficult to be any positve spin on the Don Jail or any provincial jail. I'm not sure why your husband is in the "hole"(isolation)for but this makes a bad sittuation even more depressing. There are no redemming qualities to these places. Their purpose is hold ya process ya until sentanced and get you on the way of the revolving door. This is done with the cheapest way possible in terms of EVERYTHING!!!!! Visiting days are a zoo in the Don , good luck to you family husband pray to the Lord for guidance

It's true visiting is a zoo at the Don. So, try to visit during the week or else the wait time during the weekend will become very uncomfortable for you and your kids. By wait time I mean over an hour on the weekends, depending. Isolation is isolation, I doubt there is much difference in the Don in that aspect. There won't be a window in his cell but there is one in that hallway. I suggest that he reads because they have some books and I have heard that it is the best way to pass time considering there isn't much else to do. I have never seen Maplehurst, so I can't really compare the two. From what I have heard, it is nicer than the Don. Just try to be as supportive as possible and it will make his time much easier. Good luck!
