I just recently finished reading a fairly new book on the market called "Visiting Life". (I got it through AMAZON). It's a true story and quite a good read, about a woman who fell in love with a man doing life at Pelican Bay and her experiences being involved with a "lifer" and the other women she befriended at visits along the way. She recounts some of their views and experiences along with her own. I highly recommend it if you are looking for a book that covers what some women experience in this situation.

Here are some reviews of it... it looks like not just a good story, but she seems to be a really good writer, too:

This link will take you to a website [Alternet] that published Chapter 1 of this book and an interview with the author. She is a writer/journalist and an editor, btw!

I am reading it now, good book!

But I found myself skipping through parts like where she describes the visiting room routines, because we all know that stuff inside and out! I would have been fascinated five years ago, but now I keep thinking I could write it better LOL...

Who else here has the book already? I don't want to give away too much about it... :D

I read the book, and it is very well written. MWI women will really appreciate her point of view, it helps to explain the intimacy that develops between two people. I had my Mom read it, and it helped her to understand my relationship.

I read Visiting Life a few months ago. I really liked it. She was so genuine and real. I felt her pain. And for those who are wondering why she is no longer with him, you will understand by the end of the book. SAD!!!

I read the book in July and enjoyed it. I checked it out on a Thursday for my weekend trip to visiting and had finished it Friday night before I even left. lol It's a great book and the end brought me to tears.
