View Full Version : The Road Home - 7 Days of Freedom

I haven't been around PTO much and I am sorry. With Wayne's homecoming, my time has been short to say the least.

I just wanted to tell you about our first week of freedom together.

The first day wall we were interested in was getting home. That was Monday.

Tuesday we got his driver's license renewed and made an appointment with his PO for Thursday, saw several members of his family, and went out to eat.

Wedneday I went back to work and he went car shopping. He found something he wanted and decided to look further into it.

Thursday his PO cancelled the appointment and rescheduled it for Monday. He took his uncle to look at the car.

Friday he bought the car. It was 96 Sebring that's really nice. We then went to his parents' house, watched old home movies and ate steak off the grill. We stayed up almost all night long after we got home, watching "Family Guy." It's a cartoon along the lines of "The Simpsons" that he loved. As one of his "Welcome Home" presents, I bought him the 3rd season (21 episodes) on DVD. We watched about 10 episodes.

Saturday we slept late, went grocery shopping and today looks like I'll be doing laundry while sleeping beauty sleeps late again.

Not very exciting, is it?

Here's what I've noticed about life with him home:

1. He's addicted to the TV. I mean seriously addicted and we've got about 200 channels - it's a tad overwhelming for him. I let him watch whatever he wants without saying a word.

2. He loves to eat.

3. It's just like he was never gone. This is really weird for me becasue I can't believe, knowing how miserable I was for almost 2 years, everything has fallen back into place. That's the coolest part.

Monica,

Why are you sorry that you haven't been around PTO?

Frankly, hon, I for one have been happy not to see you, because, you are doing what you are supposed to do!

Enjoy life with Wayne and getting to know each other again!

When I came home Linda and I did the same thing, we still are.

Enjoy yourselves, be happy, and when you and Wayne are ready, dig back into PTO.

Do keep us posted, though it is wonderful to see life for you and Wayne come together again.

Patti

PS: That does not mean we don't miss you, because we do! We are so, so happy for you two!

I finally got away for a minute - he's watching the NASCAR pre-show and I'm hanging with my PTO buds. :)

Life is good. Not perfect and there's some things that take a while to get used to. I stopped by the bank Friday afternoon and was waiting in line. I kept getting very impatient until I realized that I didn't have to race home and wait by the phone. That Wayne IS home. However, when I got here, he was sort of mad at me for being so late. He'd gotten his car and wanted to show it off and he didn't know where I was.

His parents have come around and we did have supper with them Friday night. It was really cool and we watched these old home movies that Wayne's sister had transferred from 8mm film to DVD. There was even hokey background music. Wayne was just as cute when he was a little boy as he is now! :D In one scene he was doing the twist - he was maybe 7 or 8. He was a living toe-headed doll!

I love him dearly and with him here now - every single second of waiting was worth it!

Yea - it's been a blast.

One thing I forgot to mention!

Thursday while I was at work, my boss walked in with roses and balloons and a stuffed bear. They were from Wayne - of course. Attached to the rose vase was a gift wrapped box with a necklace inside - silver and a blue stone (not sure what it is). But it was all beautiful. All the chicks at work were so jealous! Ha! Ha!

Monica- all I can say is that I am reallly happy for you guys. Robert comes home in 4 months, and even though I am SO FREAKIN HAPPY, I am still unsure as to how to handle it. What you have said has shown me that I don't need to worry about what the apartment looks like, or my regular routine getting messed up. It has shown me that the most important thing is him coming home. Relax, be in love, and enjoy the fact that your love is home. Breathe! How exciting and breathtaking! God bless both of you, and never ever let the magic end!
We love you guys!

It sounds like you're in heaven. And after two years of fighting and being strong you certainly deserve it! I am very happy to hear that everything fell right back into place. Enjoy your reunion!

reading how "normal" things are for you guys really pulled on my heartstrings. Everytime I think of Stephen coming home I wonder what will he be like, what will WE be like...will things be the same as they were before, how will we be from day to day? I am sitting in the computer lab at school crying like a dummy trying to hide behind my screen so noone sees me :)...it was just good to hear that you fell back in to step with eachother.....thank you danielle!! :)

Wow Monica I don't know how I missed this one! I am so happy to hear all is going so good with the both of you! Funny thing, Trav and I had never even been with one another before he was released but now it seems as if we had always been together. And I know what you mean about the last 2 yrs... it seems now like it never happened.

Enjoy life Monica! Much happiness to you and Wayne~
