I have a question for ya'll. Has any of your men/women called and
said anything about the unit they are at are denying the magazines you have ordered for them. My fiance called the other night madder than snot because the mail room sent him a notice letting him know that they won't be letting his WWE (wrestling) magazines away and did not say why. He said if it's because of the women in it. They aren't even naked. And if they say the two women are promoting homosexuality how do they figure. Their are two guys wrestling too. I remember someone posted a thread on here with an article about the new magazine policy. Can some one send me the thread or pm me with the article. thanks Let me know what ya'll think about this. It really ticks me off. I paid for it they need to refund me my money if they aren't going to give it to him. Plus the magazine is a sports magazine.

Here is the thread: http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=258620

There is a link to a paralegal site that had the wording of the proposed AR...which apparently is no longer 'proposed'.

Cessna thank you for the thread. I went to her web site and it helped. I feel if they are going to take his magazine away for the girls in skimpy clothes wrestling and the men in there wrestling then they need to take away all sports magazines with cheerleaders and football. Heck the wrestling is fake and scripted. As for the girls he could care less he cares about the matches and what happened when he can't watch. He wants to get back into wrestling when he comes home.

(As of April 4, 2007) After just three weeks of AD 07-01 being enforced, inmates at East Arkansas Regional Unit (E.A.R.U.) are being subjected to the rejection of magazine issues including: BLENDER; STUFF; ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY; XXL; SOURCE; just to name a few.

We have the AR(Administrative directive)864-Publications: it is 3 pages long so I will summarize... All publications are suject to inspection and may be rejected if found to be detrimental to the security discipline or good order of the institution or if they propose, condone or provide information likely to facilitate criminal activity.
A. the Warden shall dsignate staff to review incoming publications
B. they can be rejected if they are believed to contain some of the following types of information
1. instruction for making weapons etc.
2.encourage methods of escape
3.instruction for making alcohol or drugs
4.describing illegal discrimination, violence, verbal or sexual abuse or inflammatory attitudes toward race, sex, age, handicapped
5.sexually explicit material with nudity
6.in addition the Dep. Dir. of Treatment may exclude additional types of material that may interfere with tx. or rehabiltation
Publications recommended for rejection will be referred to the Warden for final decision. Decisions must be made on the contents of an individual publication not on the basis of a list of of approved publications or previous issues.
Any rejected publication will be held safe by the Warden, the Inmate can appeal after receipt of a written notificaton that the publication is rejected.
The inmate has 10days to file an appeal after notification.
Options for disposing of an unacceptable publicaton are: destruction, return of the publication to the sender at Inmate expense, mail the publication to a third part @ Inmate expense, give to a third party during visitation.

Hey PODS -- Thanks for the information. I would like to see the AR, but as usual, I can't find it!

This begs the rhetorical question...WHY does the ADC make it so hard to find their AR's?

It appears that "Magazine A" could be acceptable in June and "Magazine B" could be unacceptable in the same month of June. Then in July "Magazine A" could be unacceptable and "Magazine B" could be acceptable. And in August both of them could be unacceptable. And all this is depending upon how the warden's designated staff member feels that day.

So ordering a subscription is a crap shoot...oh wait...in craps you can actually win once in a while!

You've got it correct. It's not on the internet, we had to request it from the ADC... after this that and the other we finally got a copy of it. I can make a copy for you if you want me to. Just let me know.

I have an offer for a weekly magazine subscription that I would like to get for my husband. My question is, the subscription comes with several "gifts" coffee mug, jacket and what not. I know he can't have those things and I don't care if someone in the mail room takes them home with them. Does anyone know if that would be a problem for him? Would he still get the magazines? It's a sports magazine so surely the content would not be inappropriate...Thanks!!

Don't know for certain if the 'gifts' will cause a problem but I can tell you that I ordered a few magazine subscriptions that came with DVD's, MP3 players, etc. The magazines made it through with no problem. Like you, I didn't care what happened to the 'gifts' and never asked.

As long as the magazine is not inappropriate I would think it would get through. But hey...we are talking about ADC...the rules change daily!

Just call the magazine and have the gifts sent to you or not at all. They are allowed magazines/books (printed material) UNLESS they are in the hole. Then they are w/held in the mailroom until they get out. I can just see them not giving him his magazine because it came w/contraband so I'd call.

I'll be subscribing for a friend in Arkansas -- all his friends and family are in Texas, so it's the best way to keep him going. He's requested hunting or dirt bikes (according to his girlfriend), so I'm hoping that Field & Stream is a safe bet. Of course, the current issue is the "Gear of the Year" special, with a gun rack full of rifles on the cover. But at least now I'll know why it didn't make it.

Thanks for the thread -- I'll pass it on to his girlfriend, though I don't think she was looking at signing him up for "Maxim" anyway. :)
