Sometimes the first time offenders who are to be released are the ones with less serious convictions. Someone may come along soon who can help you more specifically with this question.

Guys I talked to Ronnie last night, you know they hear things on the inside before we do, he says that he has heard about this possible law. It's a big topic inside. Just thought I would let you all know

Are you talking about federal or state?

My husband is in the federal system and is a first time offender. Are there any ways to get early release? Any options are apprechiated.

At this time there is NO early release for first time offenders at the federal level, even though some states have passed laws for THEIR states only.

There is some work on trying to get sponsorship on a potential bill but at this time that has not happened.

The only early release is the regularly scheduled good time which is computed into the release date and halfway house which is 10% of your sentence not to exceed 6 mos

Rumors come and go within the prison walls and I firmly believe that most of them are started by BOP employees to make the inmates stay more hell.

Please do not get your hopes up on rumors, but get into working with advocates to get the laws changed. There are many advocacy groups out there. Many people within this site can direct you on how you can help

Where is a good place to start with the advocate groups. Could you please give a list of websites, and also places to look up information on laws concerning the prison sentence. Also say a inmate transfers to a different state, will he go by the laws of that particular state, or the state he was convicted in?

yahoo groups, fppp - federal prison policy project is one of the best in my opinion. they just got a sponsor for a very important bill for additional good time release, education etc

LERA is the name of the proposed bill, check it out

My fiance Darrell is a first time offender. He informed me about the new law. I would like to know if anyone knows exactly how this law is going to help the first time offenders. He has served almost 85% of his time. If you have any information please reply back.

Does anyone know what the exact differences are between the two federal bills, H.R. 3072 and H.R. 3602?
I'm trying to do research for my husband and it's beginning to fry my brain.
