Normally how long does it take for an offender to come up for parole in TX. And yes I know that TX has no normal to it.

Also, has anyone heard of serving the 1/4 time of your sentence? This was suppose to be a new law passed or something I can't find anything on it.....

Hi and welcome to PTO. I am sorry that I am unable to answer your question, at least not well! But I promise that someone will be here soon to answer this for you...

I wish that I could help you more, but I can tell you that the crime affects the amount of time that you serve. Becuase of the nature of my fiance's crime he has to serve half before he is eligible for parole. There is a previous thread on this site that gives a link to the parole eligibility dates and the types of crimes that fall under them. Hope this helps a little

There is no new law. The state changed it to where State Jail Offenders became eligible for mandatory supervision.

In Texas, parole eligible offenses usually BECOME eligible once 25% of the sentence is served. Now, don't go out and buy a cake yet....this only means they will begin the review process. (and not all offenses are parole eligible....)

I would suggest calling the status line 512-406-5200. Find out the projected release date and talk with review/release 512-406-5812.

Also, cruise the Texas forum and look for my threads.....THERE IS TONS of parole info in there! If I still need to fill in any gaps for ya, let me know.....

Parole eligibility is generally governed by the statute in place on the date that the offense was committed. As an example, I saw an individual that was placed on probation in 1980 and later absconded, with the revocation not occurring until 2000. Both his good time calculations and parole calculations were based upon what was in effect in 1980 (meaning he was subject to the 1/3 guideline with a non-discretionary mandatory supervision date...and that he entered drawing 20 days of good time with no work time credit since that did not come into play until September 1987).

The same thing holds true with Mandatory Supervision where the offense occurred prior to September 01, 1996...even if the sentencing occurred after that date, it would still be a non-discretionary date presuming the offense to be mandatory eligible.
