Hi, my name is Russ and my wife is in Perryville. I have heard much about the AZ DOC, but does anyone know anything about Perryville specifically. She has been there for a couple of months now, but we have not been able to correspond other than by letter. She has been assigned to a "yard", but I have been told that my visitation application has not yet been approved. Any info would help!!

Hi Russ! First of all: welcome to PTO! I'm sure you'll find all the info and support you need on here.

Well I have a pen pal at Perryville. She used to be in the Santa Maria unit but due to an erratic transfer she's now in San Pedro. From what I've understood it's not too bad in there, but I don't know many specifics. Hopefully others on here can help you out on the time it usually takes to get visits approved etc. because that I know nothing about.

Thanks for the welcome! My wife was assigned to the San Pedro unit. However, she says that jobs there are slim pickings and that she may actually request a transfer to Santa Maria.

My pen pal liked Santa Maria much better but mostly because that's where the friends she had made are at. She'd prefer to go back to Santa Maria as well but I don't know if she's asked for a transfer. I hope your wife will manage to get transferred!

Does anyone know anything about the process they go through to approve visitors? My Mother-In-Law has been approved I found out a couple of days ago was approved, but I have not heard about my application as of yet. Not only that, but in my last letter from my wife she told me that she there are potential contentious "issues" with some women due to her association with another inmate. She is seeking a transfer to Santa Maria, but doesn't know if that is even feasible.

Listen, It Is A Fact That Prisoners Get Crap For Who They Hang Out With, But At The End Of The Day, You, Yourself Have To Live With Your Choices. Is It The Crime Or The Individuals Reputation That Is Giving Your Wife A Hard Time? If It Is Reputation, Tell Her To Just Take A Chill For A Minute And See What The Fuss Is All About. If Its The Crime, That Is A Personal Issue. The Good News Is This...tell Her To Give It A Minute And Some Other Drama Will Arise Taking The Focus Off Of Her Issue With Whom She Is Friends With. That Is The Only Blessing Prison Has. One Drama Unfolds And The Attention That Was Burning Down Your Back Leaves. Hope That Helps. As For The Visitation Issue, Here Is A Word Of Advice. Call The Counselor, Call The De[puty Warden Call, Call, Call....staff Doenst Like Hearing From Outsiders Since It Makes Them Nervous. Its Amazing What Is Accomplished Just By A Phone Call.

Hi. My husband is at perryville. I've been told they will be closing this hard down. I'm not sure if that is just for the Santa Rosa unit, but the dep warden had a heart attack recently, there are all kinds of probs with the mail, on of the Santa Rosa counselor's is out on pregnancy leave, an inmate almost died of heart complications, people are not following policy regarding phone calls and as for visitation...
The santa rosa unit had lost a couple of files, my daughter has been approved for visits to my husband since he was incarcerated, yet recently they had to look up the paper file to verify this as it was no longer on the computer. They will not approve you if you are a felon, otherwise., I think.. with her consent and time... you should be ok.
