It is being considered.

It was discontinued because of a system-wide policy by the last Secretary of Corrections.

So, in order for it to come back it has to be done state-wide. That requires ALL of the wardens of all of the Kansas institutions to agree on how it will be handled this time, etc.

There were problems with how the last picture project was supervised...so it's a planning process right now figuring out how to make it better.

From what I hear, the responses from the wardens across the state have been positive for brining it back. That's not a guarantee, but it does give some hope.

But you're dealing with the state here...meetings, requisitions, more meetings...so nothing is going to happen "immediately".

DOC Central Office has approved the return of "the picture project." This approval only came down recently. It is now up to each individual facility to put a "plan" into place to accomodate photos. Each facility has the option of not doing it at all, but I'm assuming most will do it because of the interest.

It will take a few weeks for each facility to plan out it's strategy before getting it back up.

The project will not be too much different than the way it was ran before. The following rules will apply...

1. Only level three inmates will be eligible to have their photos taken.

2. Only one inmate may be in a photo at a time. No group photos.

3. In order to sign up for the photo, the inmate must sign a waiver stating the photo is for "private" use of someone on his approved visiting list and will not be publicly displayed. If the visitor uses the photo for any other reason, his/her visiting is subject to suspension. If it is found that the inmate conspired in the publishing of the photo, he can be subject to a disciplinary report.

4. Photos can only be delivered to an approved visitor.
