hi everyone! dont know if anyone when to rikers to visit yesterday the 24th (it was an m-z day) but i got there around 2 (which to me is still kinda early) when i arrived i hadnt left my phone at home like i shouldve so i stood to wait for a locker since all were takin along with about 10 other people....i waited for about half an hour and no1 came to empty a locker...NO1!...now im almost 6 months pregnant and if you where outside yesterday it was HOT outside so that on top of my son pushing his head against my bladder didnt make for a good mix...so i took my sim card outta my phone and threw it in the garbage...my phone is replacable ...my bladder and dignity is kinda hard to replace lolz...ok so i get inside past the metal detectors into the bathroom and on my way to the amkc registering desk....no1s there. theres about 15 other people waiting for the co to show up...theyve been waiting about half an hour...i take a seat and wait...about 40 minutes later the co shows up smiling and cheerful ( ive never seen a happy co b4) no1 else is as happy as her (so far ive been on the island for an hour and 10 minutes plus the hour commute from manhattan into queens and 30 minute commute on the mta rikers bus to the island)(in total so far 2:40 minutes) i go up to the desk to register hand her my id and inmate information and wait for the 2 papers to be handed to me...she cracks a smile and genuinely says to me (nice id picture you should model) i dont even acknowledge that comment (im already starting to be aggravated) i sit and fill out the papers and wait for the bus to the facility....about 10 minutes later the bus shows up im already sittin by the door so no need to bumrush anyone to get 1st dibs on the front seats on the bus...we get to the facility pretty quick seeing how amkc isnt far from the main building....i already see something that is going to take up more time and my patience. drug dogs. we get off the bus and hand over our papers and id card because all the lockers are taken so well be called by name when one becomes available(more of a wait) we line up and the dog starts making rounds. it doesnt find anything. the dog made 4 rounds b4 the co walking her wanted to show us a trick. i dont want to see tricks i want to see my man dont they understand that? anyways we get passed all that and i go to use the bathroom again (always bring your own napkins or tissue ...you never know when there isnt toilet paper) i take a seat and wait for my name to be called for a lock. an hour passes by before visitors finished from visiting loved ones comes pouring thru the door and rushing to there lockers to catch the next bus fast....15 minutes later my name gets called for a lock....im not naive so i hold onto my lock in my hand and my belongings until the co comes out to collect our visitors cards. an hour passes and nothing ....now theres 3 bus loads of women sittin and standing waitng for locks and for the chance to hand in the visitors cards in to a co ....2 hours pass and nothing...im already regretting throwing my phone out and contemplating just going home and coming back another day....2 and a half hours and finally a co comes out to collect the cards...(finally now only about 20 minutes b4 i can see my baby) or so i thought. see what we didnt know was that we got caught up waiting for the inmates to finish the head count and depending on the cooperation of the inmates it can take god knows how long b4 there ready for visits...in our case it took a couple hours but i wont know this until i see my baby...about 30 minutes after i handed my card in the officer came back out and called 15 people out of about 100 waiting to visit and i was one of the lucky 15 thank god....we go through the final metal detector and search... and walk towards the visitng floor...get a table number and sit and wait for the inmates to be let out ...almost 10 minutes later the inmates are let out...my mans not one of them...im starting to get very angry at this point thinking hes done something and they wont allow his visit...a co starts walking towards me and im thinking the worst ...all he does is ask me my mans last name and how to pronounce it....he tells me hes using the bathroom...and im just as relieved as my man is lolz...a few seconds later i see my man finally come out but im so tired already that i dont even stand up...he understands....and thats why i love him...they extended our visit about 15-20 minutes so i was a lil happy about that...after the visit ended it was time for the adventure back to the real world....that took another hour just waiting for the busthen half an hour waitng for the mta bus back to the train then an hour on the train back to my house and bed....honestly this may sound like a typical day on the island...but ive visited alot and ive never spent so long on the island....has anyone else experienced this at all this week? :(

I was there on Wednesday too! I got to the island at 12:45 and saw the great line stretching allllll the way to the exit gate...Still didn't get into the central house until almost 2!
Were you on the first bus to AMKC?
I couldn't believe how slooooooow everything was going. I was in the group that got 6 ladies called for random drug tests and dropping off a package took forever. Even though I arrived way early, I still didn't get off the damn island until 5:30!
I saw him by 3 but had to wait an hour for the shuttle bus to bring us back to the central visit house. And you know how everyone starts out in some sort of line then ends up clumping up all over the entrance  As if we're gonna get anywhere faster...I think I've had to stay longer and longer each time I visit...I don't understand why it takes this long
Anyway I understand you and probably everyone else too can say the same!
In the end, you know we'd do it all over again for them :o

(and if your not up to it then its ok...i understand being with a perfect stranger could become uncomfortable lolz so dont feel bad if your answer is no)

I used to go to the amkc jail and it is seriously the slowest one that I ever been to on any given day lol. I remember going on Dec 24th and I was in that place for what felt like FOREVER! Everyime I went, the lockers were always unavailable too which caused us to wait even longer. Sometimes I get there by 10 and not get back home until around 5...Was almost like a part time job!

Sorry getting back to you so late! omg 5:30 is insane  u must've gotten home so late! what borough r u in? i'm originally from qns but i also stay in manhattan (morningside heights) for school. it takes forever and a day to even get to that island, you'd think they'd do things a little faster when they have the attitude like they can't wait to get people out of there! I would definitely meet up with u but they actually transferred my fiance about a week ago to bellevue :( 'cause this whole situation has really gotten him bad...he's doing better now though (Thank God!) so that means they're gonna transfer him back in a few weeks...probably by mid June? I'll let u know and we can definitely bear the crazy long wait together! I go by myself all the time 'cause his sister's always stuck at work and all anyways. Hope everything else is going well with you though :) I'll be in touch!

How random is this system? They take forever to locate personal property but only two hours to relocate my fiance (again!) :blah:
They moved him back to AMKC this afternoon and I cannot even describe how upset I was when I found out! I had just talked to him at 2pm and, after running errands for him, finally got to Bellevue at 4pm only to find out that he'd just been shipped out!
So, as expected, I'll definitely be there on Thursday nice 'n early at 12:30 to wait on that God-forsaken line :o
Oh the past few visits at Bellevue have spoiled me (only a 20min max. registration!) but now it's time to get back to reality :(
Let me know if you're going too k? :D

Today was horrible...Or maybe I just have no luck :( Today I got to AMKC at the usual 8:45 after spending the usual 1hr+ dropping off commissary, registering, and waiting for the bus...only to arrive to a room full of women still waiting with their cards and a whole group of newbie COs still figuring out how to give us locks :blah:
To make matters worse, they don't even take our cards for almost another hour (and I feel worse for the women who arrived at 8am!) after 2 more buses of visitors have already arrived! It's not even the wait, it's the not knowing WHY  we're waiting as we see COs walking back n forth or standing and chatting...And they wonder why so many people get all upset and start talking a whole bunch of unneccessary crap...I think it would help a lot more if they just tell us a reason, any reason, as to why some of us have been sitting for nearly 2hrs in the cold refrigerator that is C-95 and maybe the "outspoken" visitors wouldn't cause such a scene. :shake:
I fully understand that this is like a job and waiting forever is totally unavoidable, but this was even worse than usual and it wasn't due to the count (otherwise I wouldn't need to vent so much). According to my fiancee, they did the count late
I guess I'm just mad because usually when you manage to get the first visit you get that mini extension of 15-30 min because of the count and my group got jipped! On top of that, we didn't even get the full hour

So yea, I'll be back on Thursday :o Thanks for reading!

Sounds horrible...Amkc has to seriously be the worst! Sorry you had to go through that. The last time I went was on December 24th and it was a MAD HOUSE so I understand your pain.
