Can Someone Please Let Me Know What Happenes When An Inmate Gets Into Thier First Fight While At Grvc At Rikers? My Husband Got Into A Fight Today And They Put Him Into The Box... It Was His Very First Fight Since He Been Locked Up. I Want To Know What The Least Amount Of Days He Can Be In There For A First Fight And What Is The Most As Well As If I Should Call Over To Grvc If They Will Give Me The Information On Him As Far As To How Long He Has To Do In The Box. Please Respond Even If Its To Tell Me You Dont Know!!! I Just Wanna Make Sure This Is Being Read Thank You Guys...:( I Am So Damn Depressed:(

Hi Heclee and i hope your ok seeing as you sound pretty worried right now...i dont know too much about box time but im pretty sure he can still recieve letters while in there so you should try writing him(please forgive me for misinforming you if i was wrong) and asking how much time they gave him there but it probably isnt to long....my man was in the box for a week for fighting but ive heard of guys getting up to a month in the box (dont know how true the information was) hope i helped you a lil bit and good luck!!

ps. please dont depress yourself hun...you need to be strong for you and your man and remember...when it rains the sun always follows close behind :)

This is a complicated question to answer. When an inmate gets caught fighting and its broken up, tickets get written. Just like in the street with the cops, correction officers try and use all available rules that he broke. The inmate rule book is broken up in to 3 categories. Tier 1 Rules are most serious, Tier 2 are moderately serious and Tier 3 are the less serious rules. The most he can get is 90 days for each Tier 1. Fighting is a Tier 1 offense. If there was a weapon, thats another tier 1. If the inmate ignored the officer thats a tier 2. Add all that up and he could be in there for up to 180 days or more. But they usually dont come down that hard on a simple fist to face fight. He may get 30 days or less. The adjudication captians are usually not that hard unless the correction officers push it. They usually dont push the tickets thru unless it was an assault on staff. Then they give the maximum.
