Hi,
My husband is currently serving a 67-year sentence for rape and has a life sentence to serve for murder. None of my family or friends knows what he did, but some know that he's in jail. I know he wouldn't do it again, and I've never been afraid of him. We fell in love when we were 14 (19 years ago!) & I never felt any differently about him after I found out what he did when he was 16. He has grown & changed in the 15 years he's been in jail, and I'm proud of him for that. Why doesn't anyone seem to understand that? It seems like no one thinks a person can change. Does anyone else feel that way?

Juliet, the reasons a person rapes are deep-seated psychological reasons, and as your case shows, the person is also capable of loving and carrying on normal relationships, too. I'm very sorry you're going through this, but I admire you for being able to truly love your husband and see the best in him. I understand how you feel and I'll keep you both in my prayers.

Juliet--I think that anyone can change and it is unfortunate that the criminal justice system is more punitive than rehabilitive.

Since I've been visiting Ralf I have met several men who are not the same men as they were when they went in. Most of these men were teenagers when they committed their crimes and I don't believe that they are a danger to anyone. I know it can be hard to deal with people. People will always ask what your man is in for when they find out he is in prison. When I tell them 2nd degree murder, but that Ralf is innocent. THey are like oh yah right!
