Hey car,
Don't know about the van services to Riker's but I can point you to some resources about what you can and cannot bring.
First:Bring a gov't issued id, i.e. passport or nys driver's license, they seem to make a big fuss over anything else.
Second:No cell phones or any electronic devices. (Also no mirrors, things made of glass, purse perfume bottles, etc.) They have lockers in the front of the central visit house where you first arrive, but usually they aren't available so it's best NOT to take your cell phone, mp3 player, and any other electronic device. If you do want to risk the looong wait for a locker, make sure to have 2 quarters!
Third: Go to the nyc.gov doc site for info on what to bring, how to get there, etc. (sorry I couldn't post the link as this forum requires 25+ posts to put URLs, so just google the terms "nyc.gov" and "doc" and the site will come up, then click the link "How do I...?") What they don't specify is what each housing unit allows per visit. Ex: c95 only allows 2 boxers, 2 undershirts, 1 pants/shorts, 1 shirt (no longsleeve white) and a whole bunch of other 1 only restrictions. Try to find out the number of the housing unit your bf is in to get details. The safest colors to bring are grey, tan, and white (except for longsleeved shirts). Definitely do NOT bring black, blue, red, or yellow. (Though I have been able to bring black or blue socks & boxers without a problem.)
The rest of the details u should be able to find on that site. Hope this has been some help, I've only been dealing with this for 3wks now, best to learn quick to help the whole process go faster! Let me know if you have anymore qs!

As far as van services you can get a bus from the bx at third ave and 149th street. They leave at 8am on the dot try and get there early. You can ask anyone where the bus pick-up is at. Another thing make sure that you have your loved ones correct visit day. At rikers they go by last name. For example tomorrow is from A-L and sunday is M-Z between the hours of 7-2. My advice get there as early as possible. hope this helps
