Hi Tx4, I'm pretty new at this too! My 'guess' on a transfer is somewhere around two weeks, but that's just a semi-educated guess. I'm sure someone will answer who knows a lot more about it than I do!

Hi tx4 and welcome to PTO and the Texas forums! Much depends on the reason for the transfer, if the transfer was for say, in order to take a college or vocational course, I personally waited about 6 months on a transfer of this sort. However, if the transfer is due to hardship purposes and it has already been approved, I could see that happening much sooner. If you're talking about someone just coming into the system and they're currently being housed in a county jail, I'm not certain, but I thinks it's around 45 days that they have to complete the transfer before the state must start paying to house them at the county level. *wheeew, pardon, I'm a little longwinded occasionally* If you're speaking of someone who just went into the a TDCJ transit facility and is awaiting to be sent to a unit, that can take up to 2 years if you allow them to drag their feet...
Okay, that's a lot of info., but I wasn't sure at which stage of incarceration you were speaking of. If you need more details, much can be found in the Texas sub-forum entitled "TDCJ - What You Need To Know (http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=384)"
Hope this helps you out.
As for Bryan, I don't know much about it other than it's pretty much a "college town".
Peace, Dan

TX4,
How much longer does your dtr have on her sentence? For the drug program I have heard of girls getting transferred soon after approval and there have been others who waited for months and months after approval....it just depends on the BOP really.....soemtimes they are fast and sometimes they are s l o w so you never know...I was in Bryan for 14 mos and it is not bad for a prison...lots of freedom time.....but there are like in any prison rules that must be obeyed...but there are alot of classes to take there. It was pretty laid back when I was there of course that was in 2004-2005....I know there is a different warden there.....but as far as basic rules they are pretty much the same.

Hi, I was at Bryan in the mid 90's. It wasn't bad. It used to be a private boy's school. Actually they told us that the reason they had a fence on the back side was to keep the neighborhood out! When I was there they were still running the boot camp which was where I went. Too bad they quit that. Wonder why? When I was getting to Bryan this is how it went...about 3 weeks in the county jail..then to Rochester MN by car to board Conair..That part was kinda scary as they had armed guards standing on the ground with guns in hand but there were also 150 guys on that plane and 6 of us women. They had us sit in the front tho'....We took the plane trip to Oklahoma City where we spent 3 weeks in the county jail there(a 13 story affair) . That sucked there as the food was bad and the windows were so you couldn't see outside and you had to be there 2 weeks before you could go to the "outside" rec area. What they did was hold everyone there until ther was a bus load to go to Bryan..That's how we went. Oh..they like to play little head games with the inmates about when the bus is leaving too..For security reasons there is never any advance warning about when it leaves they wake you up at some ungodly hour of the morning and tell u to pack yer s#*$. Not that u have much to pack!
Anyway that's how it was, may have changed some.
