Hi everyone!
Some of the names sounds really familiar! It's been 3 yrs since my husband came home after a 10 mth stay at NRVRJ (I know, 10 mths is nothing, but at the time, it was awful).
While my husband, Kevin, graduated seminary in 1991, he wnt into yout counseling - but his felony lost him his license. Good things - his heart was in prison ministry. We began a ministry (Continuing The Hope) for Christians who are inside who need encouragement from outside friends. It's not a matchmaking service, we strive to support and encourage those inside as well as the families. Studies have shown that those who are believers and inspire others inside, do well when they do come home - they are more mature and know what's important in life.
Over the past month (Kevin has been recuperating from a stroke in Dec), we've beeen 're-vamping' the ministry, making it stronger, with more support. Kevin was finally ordained 2 yrs ago and is now a part time prison chaplain - traveling all over VA - meeting those who are in the ministry, praying with them, baptisms, and just talking.
If your VA loved one is a Christian and would love to be encouraged by an outside friend (usually a family chooses an inmate to write and encourage), we'd be glad to send them an info packet that explains the whole ministry.
Just give me an email and let me know their name, DOC #, facility, etc. First, we'll send them a letter asking if they'd like to be part of the ministry, and if they would, then we'll send them the entire packet and work on getting them an encourager! Our outside friends are wonderful - they write at least once a month, send birthday cards, Christmas, special occasions, etc. If you're interested, just holler - I can get some letters out in the next week!
Hope everyone is doing well - I'm sorry to see some of you still here. Your time WILL come and it's better than you ever dreamed!!
Blessings!

We're based in VA- but we're not opposed to writing and encouraging anyone all over - but to also have an occasional visit, they must be in the VA?NC?WV area.
