My mom is going to Pekin
I've got several questions, hopefully you can provide some insight. My mom is going in to Pekin in three days, and she's concerned about what type of questions will be asked of her in the interview with the counselor upon entering. Mostly -she is fearful of incriminating herself in any way if asked about remorse for her crime. Do they ask these types of questions? Should she worry about this? Same goes for the correspondence, if they read her outgoing mail should she be careful about expressing her feelings about Pekin, her disgust with the judicial system, things of that nature? Can they use anything you state to prevent you from the possibility of getting moved to a halfway house. She's 66, we are all concerned about her well being. She is fearful of the cultural differences of those incarcerated, of not understanding slang and having someone take this as being disrespectful. Can you offer anything there?
I've read that the boredom is mind numbing. Is it possible to donate magazines and books to the library? I suggested I could send her magazine subscriptions. She's worried about standing out as though she's in a more privleged situation than others and worried they'll take this out on her. Is her fear legit? Can we send subscriptions, books or newspapers and is this a good idea?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give us.
