He went there with only the clothes and glasses he was wearing -the guard would not let him take in his bible. I wired money thru quick collect but when or will they let him call me to know he is okay. I can still see him sitting by the guard house near visitor lot looking so lost as I drove away. BigDog's Mama 06-10-2007, 06:47 PM Hi-my boyfriend had to submit numbers for approval on his call list. He called when he had purchased a phone card, so it is good you sent $$. The calls come in on my caller ID as Call 1 - they can't leave a message. You listen to the prompts & have to accept the call by pressing the number 5 - it is easy. They can only talk 15 minutes and then you hear some fast beeps and all of a sudden comes silence. That's how I learned during the first phone call from my guy. Be patient :) , it is stressful at first. I am not used to having folks incarcerated, so this is a learning experience for me. Take care. I remember when I dropped my finace off at the guardhouse there. It's been 7 months since he's been at Morgantown, and I can still see him standing there. The hardest, is the first couple of weeks and getting adjusted to life without him being around. If his counsellor is nice, he may let him call for a minute or 2 once he's been checked in. I recieved a call the following day from my man and it was just for a minute to let me know he was alright. Then you have to wait for his numbers to be put on his phone list, which could take a few days. Morgantown is actually not a bad place for him to go from what my fiance's told me. Like I said the hardest part is the first couple of weeks and eventually you'll learn to adjust. They have e-mail there and they're allowed to call up to 300 min per month. He was telling me last night about a family of raccoons outside their unit. He says there's tons of animals around. If you're husband is interested in doing things, there's plenty of classes for him to take. It'll help the time pass by much quicker. I know that it's a hard thing to do (preparing for him to self surrender) but just think that each day that goes by is one day closer to him coming home. I don't know how long he has, but visit, it really really helps. I try to visit 1-2 times per month, and eventhough my drive is 6 hours long, nothing stops me from being there to see him and kiss him and hold his hand. They're pretty good about rules in the visiting room as long as you're respectful. Plus, if you have questions or need support, you have people here to help you get through it.:p sliderpa 06-15-2007, 08:32 PM Thank you so much for your reply - it really helped. I did get a call the next day but I missed it and my husband did leave a message that he was okay. My number just got approved so we talked on the phone yesterday and I felt 100% better hearing his voice. My daughter and I are going to visit him next Friday and Saturday and we are only 4 hours away. My husband got 37 months and he has been there over a week. He said the food is tasteless except for the barbequed chicken on Thursdays. He is a big guy and by the time he gets out, I may not recognize him. He had told me about this website before he went in and it is a great thing to have all you kind folks out there helping everyone. Drop me a line anytime Twelvepaws 09-23-2007, 08:52 PM My husband will be going to Morgantown in about a month. How do I set him up to have some money when he gets there? And do prisoners have access to computers? Can we email? I can't believe this is happening... He went in April and when I dropped him off, he had about $300 on him. He was able to put that in an account, but all the clothes and his shoes he wore there and his wallet, driver's license, etc were sent back to me within days. There is email that they pay for - mine does not like computers (ha!). He buys a phone card to communicate every week. Nothing else can come in with them. It is not too bad - could be worse. Please familiarize yourself with the visitation info, etc before you think about visiting. Money rules are on the BOP.gov website, too. I send $$ and it automatically goes into his account. Good luck & God Bless You & Him. |
