I may be reporting to Bryan May 31st. Do you know if they still have the ICC program? Also can you give any details on the day to day life. Do you have to get up at a certain time. I assume everyone must work, what types of jobs are there? How many women share a room, and what is the room like? Are there any computers for the inmates to use on the facilities? Thank you, and welcome home!!!!

Hello
YES! I do know Kaye. She and I worked together. I understand she is head orderly now. I still keed in touch with them and will continue to do so. Where did you register Kaye and Vanessa Johnson so they get mail. There is another lady in there that wants to register and I told her I would find out.
Iunderstand it it getting prettty rough in there now. It was getting bad before I left, lots of racial and petty stuff.
Tell Kaye I said HELLO and to please tell everyone I said HELLO AND I DO PRAY THEY ARE OK. As for myself, I am fine
Have A good Day
Emilye

I will be SS to Bryan on September 12th. I would like to know what day to day is like. Is there air conditioning and if not can you have a fan in your room? What is the food like? How hard is it to get the UNICOR job and what other jobs are there? Thanks for the info.

I am just home from Bryan too. I did 7 months and am in the HWH for 21 days. THere is AC and the rooms in the housing units stay pretty cold. The food isnt so bad, I worked in the kitchen. There is a salad bar with lunch and dinner. You do eat the same things over and over though. UNICOR probably isnt hiring right now, the call center closed and everyone moved to the DC side right before I left. UNICOR should pick back up in the fall though. WHen I left, they weren't working at all. (I left on July 31). If you want more info, please let me know.

I am going in for 9 months, which was a downward departure from the 18-21 months I was looking at, so I feel very lucky. I had heard that my judge had a heart and it was true. I had a baby in April, 6 weeks early, and he has some medical problems, I know they arent suppose to take that into account but I think he did, also I have never been in trouble before.
What is the best way to make the time go by fast? I know my husband will come with the kids every Sunday so that should help.
What is the work like in the kitchen? What are some of the other jobs? I would be willing to tutor if possible, is that an ok job to have?
Do you work M-F or on weekends too? What do you do after work? What kind of tv shows do people watch in there?
Are most of the people nice? I am a little shy and some people sometimes think I just dont want to be bothered but that is not it.
If you dont mind I might have other questions later.
Thanks for your help.

MIchelle,

I received a downward departure too, from 15-21 months to 7.5 months. I had never been introuble before either.
For me, time went by fast by staying busy. I never got visits bc my family lived to far away and that was a little hard. Like I said, I worked in the kitchen, on the pm shift from Friday to Tuesday and that made my time fly by.
The work in Food Service isnt hard at all, but some women dont like it. The other jobs are as orderlies in the Units, Indoor and Outdoor Rec, Education, Chapel, Psych, ect. Everyone works Mon to Fri except for Food Service. I know women who were tutors and they liked it. You can also work in the library or law library.
After work, I usually stayed in my room and read. I never watched very much tv. In my housing unit, people watched alot of BET and talk shows.
Yes, the people are nice. I met some of the NICEST women down there. I can actually give you some names of people to look for when you get there. I have friends in the housing unit I was in, B2 and my best friend is there in the Madison unit. Feel free to ask me any questions that you want. This site helped me SOOOO much before I went in.

Thanks for the answers. Here are a few more.
Does everyone have to get up at a certain time in the morning? Do you get three meals a day or is lunch a sack lunch?
Do you have to go to sleep at a certain time? Are the cells locked or can you get up and go to the bathroom at any time?
Is there a track there to walk around?
I would appreciate the names of people to look for.

Thanks

Michelle,

You dont have to get up at a certain time, unless you have to be at work. You do have to be out of your pjs and have your bed made by 7:30am on weekdays and 10:00am on weekends. I normally got up, changed, made my bed and went back to bed until 9am or so since I didnt have to be to work till 10:30am.
You get 3 meals a day. Breakfast is served from 6 to 7 and you can go at any time for that. Lunch starts around 11 and is called by housing unit. The rotation changes everyweek. Dinner starts after 4pm count clears and is called by housing unit too. THe menus are the same and just rotate over and over.
Lights out is 10:30pm on weekdays and 11:30pm on weekends. There are no doors or cells on your room. You can get up to go to the bathroom, just try not to go during 12am, 3am or 5am count.
Yes there is a track and also indoor rec that has treadmills and eliptical machines. I lost over 50 pounds while I was there.
Send me a private message and I will give you the names.

I was really DREADING going and I have to be honest, the first 2 weeks were REALLY hard. But it got easier, having a routine helped and there are nice women there. YOu will be able to get through this.

Thanks for answering my questions. It is making me more at ease with the more I know
What time can we make calls? Is there usually a long line to get to the phones?
I will send you a PM later for the names.
Can we hace CD's or just a radio?
Can my husband send me used paperbacks?
Not sure if you can answer this but can I have glasses and contacts?

I had a friend when I was in FCI Tallhassee in 2000 named Lynn-she was a tall pretty blond-southern accent- that had a baby (really sad) in custody in the MINT program, and then was sent there to Byran for I think 10 years. This is a long shot but did you know her?

momw3kids....I was also in Bryan, and went to boot camp. Unfortunately the BOP did away with that program. There were two classes after mine, and then they shut it down. I was very fortunate to be able to participate in that. It was hard, but it was worth it to get me back home. I didn't get any time off, and just did the rest of my time in the halfway/home confinement, but like I said, it was worth it. I was in Bryan in 2003-2004, so I have no idea how it is now. And, just fyi...I was in B-1.
