My boyfriend is in Grimes Unit. Can anyone tell me more about this Unit? He was sentenced to 7 years and has a release date of July 2008. How much of this time will he actually serve? I have never been envolved with the prison system and I wanna know what to expect. Can someone please shed more light on this for me...Dee
Also one last question.....How long does it take for someone to get paroled? He has been in for two months now.

WELCOME! I don't know much about Grimes but there are others on here that will probably be able to help.
If he has 7 years and it is a 1/3 sentence then he will serve 1/6 as long as he does not lose his class and therefore lose good time. Yes, that is ADC math...1/3 = 1/6 and 1/2 = 1/4....HOWEVER...70% does NOT equal 35%...70% really is 70%. Trust me, you will get the hang of it!
Ok, that was fun to type...even if it wasn't helpful...it was fun to type!
See ya!

Ummmm....no, I can't...but I will try.
Depending on the charge/crime his sentence could be a 1/3, 1/2, or 70% sentence. Most are 1/3. Some are 50% and some are 70%.
However, with good time a 1/3 sentence means that the inmate will serve 1/6 of their time if they get all the good time they can. So if he has a 7 year sentence then that would be 14 months he would have to do before his parole date (PE/TE Date).
If his sentence is a 50% sentence then he will have to do 25% before he is eligible for parole. Once again, as long as he gets ALL of his possible good time. On a 7 year sentence that would be 21 months.
If his sentence is a 70% sentence, however....these are rough...that mean that he really has to serve 70% before he is eligible for parole. He would have to serve 59 months before parole eligibility.
I would guess his is a 1/3 sentence since his parole eligibility date is July of 2008.
Does that help?
