Nashville's an excellent food town, you just have to stay away from the touristy things like Hard Rock, where everything's overpriced and underportioned. A good suggestion would be to check out South Street Eatery and Dive Bar, which is a music industry hangout near Music Row. Excellent food, and you never know who might be there. Also, take a drive out to the country to go to Loveless Cafe on Hwy. 100 for their fried chicken. Hot (as in insanely spicy) fried chicken is also a must; check Prince's Fried Chicken Shack on Ewing Dr. just off Dickerson Rd., and you might even run into the mayor there...he's big on the place. Google 'hot chicken nashville' for more suggestions here. There's also some great ethnic places in town; several Arabic places are in the Woodbine neighborhood just south of I-440 on Nolensville Rd., and there's even a terrific Ethiopian restaurant in a little stripmall off Thompson Ln., just off Murfreesboro Rd.
A great place to go to take a day out of the city is Fall Creek Falls State Park. It's about a two hour drive out of the city, and has one of the highest waterfalls east of the Mississippi and some beautiful hiking and sightseeing. It's also worth a day trip to go down to Chattanooga, which has the TN Aquarium and Lookout Mountain's various attractions. Closer in is Radnor Lake Natural Area, which also has some beautiful walking trails. Percy and Edwin Warner Parks, located in the Belle Meade area, are wonderful places for a drive in the scenery. And when you get tired of the scenery, check the Opry Mills shopping center for some shopping therapy.
Nashville's an interesting town. And it's worth at least one jump into the country thing to see the Country Music Hall of Fame downtown. They always have some interesting exhibits, and it's certainly not as 'countryfied' as one might be led to expect.

I live in Nashville, you must go on 2nd Avenue in Downtown. It's has all the clubs from hip-hop to reggae, metal, and of course country. All of the souvenir shops and great restaurants are within a 2 block radius. You have to eat at The Melting Pot, Demos, Mafiosos, and you must get a barbecue plate from Jack's Barbecue. The best shopping is at Green Hill's Mall but the most entertaining mall is Opry Mills by far. PM me for specifics. Have a great trip
