A dear friend of mine asked me to post our story here. I hope that it gives hope to those who needs it.
My husband has been home for 6 months. We met and married while is was incarcerated. It was a scary thing to meet someone fall in love and marry him when actually you do not even know if you can love together. lol My Husband made me numerous promises when he was away. I am so proud to say that so far he has not broken one of them and have made so many of them reality. He got a Job 1 week after being home. He works all the over time he can get so that we can save to buy a brand new house. He does not break any of the parole rules. He is perfect. I mean it.
I did not tell any of my family members that he was incarcerated and I did not tell my Dad that we were married. My mom knew where he was and that we were married. Hell I had to tell someone. Well I waited until I was sure that the family loved him and then I baby spoon fed the news to them. At Thanksgiving dinner part of the prayer that my father spoke was that he was thrilled that Alfredo was here with us and that he was so happy that his baby girl was happy. ( I am 47 but always Daddy's little girl) so after the prayer my bother second that comment about Alfredo. So I took a deep breath and say well.... I want to announce that we got married. Every one was thrilled. (thank goodness no one asked when we got married). Mom went a long and acted so surprised.
When we got home from dinner my Mom called and said that my Dad wants to have a dinner with all of us to celebrate out union. I thought that was so sweet. We ended up going to Dad's country club for a marvelous champagne brunch. Alfredo got to wear his new suit and I wore the dress we got married in. My Mother brought me a dozen pink roses and it was such a beautiful day. To see and feel the love that my family has for the man that I love.
Here is the letter that my Mother read to us through tears.....
Can I have your attention for a few short moments. I have a few things I want to say and of course, I'll keep it brief.
I know I speak for everyone in congratulating our daughter and Alfredo on their wedding. We have only known Alfredo for a few short months, but the more we get to know him the more we love him. He is certainly good for her**we have not seen her so happy and truly enjoying life. It is easy to see that you are good for each other.
One of their goals, The American dream, is to buy a home of their own. They have already begun saving for the down payment. We realize that this is a huge task and will require some sacrifices on their part. So in order to make this goal a little more attainable, your father and I have decided to give you x amount (cut that part out a little too personal ) toward the purchase of a house.
Let's have a toast**Best of Luck for a long and happy life together in you own home.
We love you both* Mom & Dad
Just the other day we deiced to tell my Dad and Brother the truth about his incarceration. So when we were all together Alfredo explain to them what happened and how much time he did and that he was sorry for not telling the truth from the start. I held my breath again. My Father said it is the past and that is where it should stay. I was dumbfounded to hear MY father say something like that. My Brother concerned that it was the past and that we all Love him and that it was cool with him as long as I am happy and treated well that was all that mattered. (My first Husband died 8 years ago so they have seem me at my lowest.) So to see me so happy now is a blessing.
My husband is a blessing. He goes above and beyond to be a good husband and I love him with all my heart!
Ok GG.... that is my success story!
