View Full Version : Question??
DJohnson 07-11-2002, 10:46 AM Did any of you receive an e-mail from icare4udrs yesterday?
I did & that person asked me if I was in need of legal assistance. He/She stated I could get a discount on legal help & if I wanted to know more to e-mail the person back & he/she would tell me about their legal background & such.
I say he/she because there was no signature as to if the person was a man or woman.
I did respond back, but I stated I needed more info. on that person's legal background BEFORE I gave any kind of info. about my needed legal assistance for my fiancee.

I got one too and I did e-mail back.... I requested more information but so far I have heard nothing.....
If I hear anything, I will let you know...

B-Ray 07-11-2002, 11:47 AM Was this recieved through your PTO addy or some other email addy?
Just wondering if the PTO profile info is being used as a mailing list? If so, it would be a whole lot simpler and get more coverage, to post in a forum about there services.
DJohnson 07-11-2002, 11:51 AM BRay...it was my PTO addy. Whoever sent it must have read past posts about my legal situation & e-mailed me.
You are right it should be posted for public information on this person's legal knowledge where they come from etc.. That is what made me really suspicous of the e-mail.
Donna...if I hear anything from that person I will let you know as well!
jdswifey02 07-11-2002, 11:53 AM DJ... I got the same Private Message..... I didn't respond, because it looked to me like "advertising".....
I will be interested to know if you hear back though...
Molly 07-11-2002, 12:21 PM I hope someone would not take advantage of the people who share on this site. So many people here are enduring so much--the last thing they need is to be taken advantage of.
I do not know how to check into this--perhaps David as the site administrator can look into it.
I am glad you all posted your thoughts--others may benefit. If this individual is legitimate--they will be more than happy to share their creditentials with all of us.
Molly
Budwoman 07-11-2002, 12:42 PM IT WAS THROUGH PTO ADDRESS..... ALSO, I DON'T THINK IT'S ANYTHING TO WORRY ABOUT.... JUST AN ADVERTISEMENT. I AM NOT SURPRISED WE DON'T GET MORE ON THE SITE....
DONNA
DJohnson 07-11-2002, 01:57 PM It could be Donna...I still haven't gotten a response back.
I really didn't like the way the e-mail was done. If you are someone that is out to try to help our loved 1's & us in legal assistance then you should tell us about WHO you are & WHAT you do, you know?
I guess I get put on guard when I see things like that. There are too many people out there who like to take advantage.
Budwoman 07-11-2002, 03:28 PM THIS IS SORT OF LIKE THE GROVER JONES, CRIMINAL JUSTICE SERVICES THAT RENEE AND I GOT INTO AND LOST SO MUCH MONEY... JUST BE CAREFUL..
DONNA
DJohnson 07-11-2002, 03:43 PM Donna I thought of you & Renee & both of your past posts when I was reading the response from that person. Sounded way to familar!!
NOPE I am not interested in that, myself & EJ will continue on w/our search in our legal matters.
Take care!
I got the same message through my email. I thought it had something to do with this site, but I don't ever recall writing a post about needing legal assistance, because I don't. I just deleted the email. :):hmm:
Shortie 07-11-2002, 08:31 PM i got the email too but not knowing the person i just deleted it.. no chance to take advantage of me here..
Molly 07-11-2002, 08:41 PM I got it too...
Molly
danielle 07-11-2002, 08:43 PM I got it as well and looked at the person's profile. Stated they were from California, so I didn't think it applied to my situation in the dirty south.
I got the same E-mail, it came through PTO e-mail. I also deleted it.... I don't trust anyone. Sounds like someone did use PTO as a way to advertise to get customer's. Have to say I don't like that very much, it takes away what is being done here on this site.
KConnor56 07-12-2002, 02:17 AM I got it to through my PTO address. I thought the "if/when we talk" thing was a little wierd. I have no idea whether this person is legitamate or not, but why not explain your qualifications or explain what you can do better. The whole thing just seemed wierd, but I agree with Joy's post completely, we are all here to help one another not to drum up business, but then again if someone was actually helped..., I don't know maybe there should be a thread where people could post advertisemets (sp?). Using the PTO members list for druming up business just seems a little out of line to me. Making a post is one thing, but a mass mailing just seems to me to be taking advantage & kinda seems like PTO endorses it. I feel protective of my PTO family & it would really really make me mad to find out someone had been taken advantage of. The situation with Donna & Renee still sticks in my gut, & makes me sick.-------Ken
aprilcat 07-12-2002, 06:23 AM i, too, got the email at my hotmail address....i deleted it, figuring it was "junk" mail....
Budwoman 07-12-2002, 08:13 AM i am going to E-Mail David and let him take a look at this...
Donna
DJohnson 07-12-2002, 08:18 AM Ok guys here is the response I got from e-mailing whoever has sent all of us her "advertisements". I got it yesterday but didn't have a chance to post it. Sounds pretty close like it could be the type of situation like Donna & Renee. I agree w/all of you that the person should have POSTED what she wrote to me in a forum instead on e-mailing everybody. I think of all you guys as family & that is why I posted the original question to make you all aware that it could be a possible scam & it sounds like it to me!
Tell me what you guys think?!?!
Anyway here it is....
Perhaps an introduction would be in order. My name is
Devona, and I provide legal assistance (primarily) for
prisoners. From 1992-2002, between state and federal
facilities, I have done ten (flat) years in the prison system.
I began with a pro per status and went in to helping hundreds
of women with legal services. Although I do not possess the
full credentials of an attorney, I will provide the very best
legal assistance while staying within the Practice of Law
according to the California Code. The difference between
myself and an attorney? Not only do I know the prison
system inside and out, but my heart is in every case I take.
I’m not here to judge, simply to assure those that are having
a hard time doing time, that someone is on their side and
doing everything possible to assist them in the areas needed.
If you are interested in talking further, please send an email
or call me at: (916) 616-5546. I am out in the field throughout
the day so please leave a message and I will return your call
as soon as possible. Also, keep in mind I am in Sacramento,
California. If you are located outside of my time zone it will
make all the difference when trying to reach eachother.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Devona R. Smith

I GOT THE VERY SAME LETTER YESTERDAY AND 3:37 PM. I HAVE E-MAILED DAVID TO SEE WHAT HE CAN FIND OUT ABOUT THIS LADY... SHE REALLY HAS NO CREDENTIALS.... GROVER JONES AT LEAST HAD CREDENTIALS....
LOVE YA
DONNA
sherri13 07-12-2002, 08:28 AM I GOT THE INITIAL EMAIL FROM HER BUT DID NOT RESPOND. I AGREE WITH DONNA- EVEN WITH GOOD INTENTIONS, WITH NO CREDENTIALS, I QUESTION HOW MUCH SHE COULD GET DONE
KConnor56 07-14-2002, 11:56 AM Sounds like practicing law without a license. She was probably a half way decent jailhouse lawyer & figures she can do it on the outside. The main problem is you only have so many chances at appeals & to chance it with someone who's credentials are sketchy to begin with is a real big risk. When your locked up & your only alternative is a jailhouse lawyer you got nothing to lose. Also as was said in another post on the jailhouse lawyer thread, letting these people handle street cases can be a real risky proposition. They are usually good at institutional appeals but court cases are very different. Plus it seems her experiance has been here in Calif. so I doubt she knows much about the law in other states, & it would be taking a big chance to let her learn by doing your case. There also is no recourse if she doesn't do anything, or screws up the case completely. If I'm not mistaken when your doing appeals the record of past appeals is available to the court, & if she screws it up it could affect future appeals. Just seems to me to be too much of a down side with little positive aspects to it. But, hey I could be completely out of line & wrong as hell. It wouldn't be the first time, LOL. I doubt it though.------Ken
tek4real 07-14-2002, 12:18 PM Ken....
I don't even think that she could get by the initial filing without proper credentials...
But you are right about not many chances...
It seems to me that the DA's office does check....the federal courts refuse to hear pro se appeals unless you are certified or at least can prove your proficientcy (sp) in law.
It would open a whole new can of worms to allow just anyone to clutter an already over burdened court system.
Of course, there are scammers who would try anything to take advantage of others.
Take care...Jerry
Menally-Ill 07-14-2002, 01:01 PM I got that email too, and simply deleted it, since I need no such services...
SMITH, huh? Hmm....
Sounds like a case for Fed X, for sure!

~cheenna~ 07-14-2002, 03:50 PM I saw this person's "ad" on here right after it was posted and sent an "alert" to the moderator over that section. Then later in one of the lists I recieve there was the same posting as she posted here but made to appear apart of PTO. I imediately copied same and sent it to David. He is seeing about it. It sounds like a hustle to me.
bella 07-14-2002, 11:10 PM I also got it. I ignored it but did not delete in just incase. If she is straight up I give her credit for trying to make a living. However, I myself did not like the way the e-mail was presented. Although I welcome and appreciate any help for him and his case I know that if I need non professional advice there are plenty of extremely knowledgable people willing on this site that I know I can trust. Thanks again to all of you. If it was just an ad (which I have a gut feeling it was) I think it was a really summy thing to do. Well guess this proves that you can't get over on the PTO family :).
Isadora 07-15-2002, 01:30 AM I got it too through my PTO address. It sounded like a hustle to me so I deleted it.
KConnor56 07-15-2002, 04:32 AM Bella,
^5, very well said. My feelings exactly
