Can a 17 year old visit without a parent or guardian at Riker's? I posted this on another board, but then came across this one. A friend of mine, who is 17, visits at Riker's without a problem, but I don't want to make a long trip to be turned away. Any replies would be appreciated :)

Well i have a cousin who visits rikers without a problem. You need a photo id maybe a school id or something and bring your school schedule but it has to say the term that you are in proving that you are currently enrolled in school. Personally to defeat all of that i advice you to get a nys non drivers ID because its easier but you shouldnt have a problem if you bring those 2 items .

I just visited there for the first time 2 days ago. I am 17 and I had no problem getting in with my school ID card...it would be best to also bring your program card just in case the C.O.'s want to see it.

i am 17 and i visit every weekend...all you need is proper ID. if you take your school ID you MUST take your program card or they'll give you a hard time about it!

they want to make sure you're not visiting during school hours

hm; not too sure. just called and the CO was quite rude in saying that you MUST be 18 & over.

actully; i have a question.
ok well my my brother is in rikers; and so is my boyfriend.
they both are in ARDC - C-74.
im going to vist with our sister who is 18 since im a few month shy of being legal but would it be possible that my sister vist my brother but i vist my boyfriend?

and if they're in the same facility, you can also visit both inmates..you are allowed to visit more than one inmate at the same time if they're located in the same facility...you just have to let the c.o that registers you know and fill out two white cards instead of one...and no you do NOT have to be 18 to visit alone....=)
