I was wondering how many of you have a loved one at Chuckawalla. The last post regarding this was early 2006, and alot of transfers have gone on since then. It just seems like there are alot of people from ISP posting and not many from Chucky. Thankyou to everyone that has answered my posts, I appreciate how helpful everyone is.:D

My husband is in Chuckawalla also, they are moving almost everyone. He say's they are installing air. He has a parole hearing in June, he said that he believes he will be gone by August. He has no idea where but he believes it will be a lot further from S.D. That is wher I live.

There were on lockdown for a few day's due to a stabbing. I heard the guards trashed the place, including inmate's personal property, many of inmates family pictures were ripped up. They almost had a stand off between guards and inmates in the 11 bldg due to the destriction and taking of personal property. One of the items taken from my husband were his boxers!!?? They are off lockdown now, but I've heard a lot of men are very upset.
I told my husband just stay cool and calm.

Docswife, installing air, like air conditioning? I have had a heck of a time trying to find a fan that takes batteries. Air sure would make everyone feel better (inmates & co's) along with cooler tempers. Heat makes everyone crabby.

HE WILL BE THERE FOR A WHILE AND A HALF. THIS IS SO NEW TO US. WE LOVE HIM SO MUCH. MISS HIM LOTS. JUST STARTING TO GET ALL INFO ON SENDING HIM PACKAGES, WHICH I BELIEVE IS ONCE EVERY THREE MONTHS. IT WAS SO AWESOME TO HEAR HIS VOICE WHEN HE FINALLY WAS ALLOWED TO CALL US AFTER SO MANY MONTHS OF WAITING, IT WAS GREAT FOR OUR PARENTS AND SIBLINGS. WE ARE SUPER UNITED AND WILL HOPE AND PRAY THAT MAIL WILL NOT BE THAT BAD COMPARED TO WHERE HE WAS AT. ABOUT THE STABBING, MAN THAT'S SCARY AND THAT THE GUARDS ARE THE ONES WHO RAMSACKED INMATES'S STUFF, AWEFUL. CAN YOU TELL ME IF THIS IS OFTEN OR JUST ONCE IN AWHILE THING. HOW CAN I KNOW WHEN THEY ARE IN LOCKDOWN? WE LIVE IN NEW JERSEY, IT WOULD BE A SHAME THAT WHEN MY PARENTS WHO DONT HAVE NO ONE IN CA GO TO VISIT HIM THAT THEY WOULD FIND THAT THEY CAN'T SEE HIM. I MEAN IT TAKES FOR OUR PARENTS TIME TO EMOTIONALLY BE READY FOR THIER VISIT, MONEY AND ONLY DAYS TO STAY AND VISIT HIM AT LEAST 2 TO 3 TIMES BEFORE GOING BACK HOME. LET ME KNOW IF YOU GET ANY INFO WE SHOULD ALL KNOW ABOUT CHUCKAWALLA OK? THANKS, I APPRECIATE IT SOOOOO MUCH
GOD BLESS YOU ALL AND MAY HE IN HEAVEN STRENGTHEN US ALL CONTINUOUSLY AS WE WAIT FOR OUR LOVED ONES TO RETURN BACK TO US, ETI

I didn't know you lived in vegas, my husband told me he knew somone whose wife lived there but didn't say anything esle. I lived there for 4 years, I have 4 children...3 boys and 1 girl. My youngest son is in county there. Vegas is no place for kids especially teens, vegas can't stand them! He will be comming back to Diego when he gets out. I hate vegas!!!! I moved back to Diego, I could no longer stay in a "right to work" state, crap I couldn't get anywhere. I wish we had known each other while I was there, that would have been great we could have shared things and been able to visit the men....I'm staying with my son in Deigo right now and my girl is with me. Unfourtnely she is spoiled and now with this pregnant thing she is awful!!! Talk about attitude OMG...she is so crabby I just what to ---her. All the grey hair is from no but that girl!!!
My youngest is the one there he will be going back to court in June..hopefully they will give him time served...if not he will be out Nov 19th.
I think part of this is my husbands parole hearing comming up and I am very, very nervous about it. I want him home so bad... I have been driving the poor people on another thread crazy with my questions...Gosh I hope they don't get mad at me. Its just that when you can't get answers and you know this is all wrong it builds up year after year and on top I'm stressed out...I cant type fast enought to keep up with all the questions going on in my head...My mind will not shut off I am soo worried about this parole hearing..
Sorry....Good news I seem to have a JOB!!!

Hi, my nephew was just moved to Chuckawalla last Thrusday. I can't wait to finally be able to visit him and touch him. He was at Wasco RC for almost 4 months. Can anyone give me any information about visiting? Such as is there a long line for visiting? It is a 6 hour drive as I am from the central valley but I plan on going at least 2 weekends a month and other family members will be going on other weekends. This is the first weekend that we havn't been able to visit at least for an hour thru glass. I was told it can take a few weeks before he can have contact visits. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello!

My husband is being transfer from Ironwood too chucky, I am lost. This is the first time I at PTO. I have read many threads and found a lot of good information so once I heard he was being moved to chucky’s I decided to post and find out how different Iron wood and chucky might be so I can prepare myself. The sad part is we were schedule for our family visit on 9/22/07 and now we will have to wait till hi is at chuckys and get all the necessary documents for FM. Anyway if you would let me know what I should do when I get there I do line (car) up early in the morning but do you guys get in line to get a number ? is the processing the same or different

Hi everyone! I just joined today and not really sure how these threads work, but trying to get the hang of it.

I have a "friend" at Chuckawalla Valley, just transferred there from Corcoran. Actually, he is my ex from 13 years ago and we have somehow found a way to "reunite" after all these years and I guess you could say that the old feelings came back. :) Don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing since he has 6 more years to go?

I knew him when he was a good boy :D and we were so young and in love (started dating at 17 and broke up 4 years later). I guess you never forget your first love. Anyway, we have been writing back and forth for the past 8-9 years since he has been in.

I rcvd a letter from him about a month ago when he told me he was transferred to Chuckawalla. I live in Las Vegas, NV and I checked Mapquest just to find out that it was only 3 hours away! So, I decided to go visit him for the first time in about 5 years. Wow, I was so nervous! Needless to say, I am falling in love with him all over again. Yikes! I don't know if I should back off though because I don't want to go through the hurt with the 6 year wait, you know?

Well, I just wanted to introduce myself and just air out my story (it felt nice because nobody knows except for his family). Thanks for listening!

Hope to meet some of you some day at visiting!

Welcome to PTO!

The best way to find info besides the stickies at the top of our forum is to run a search query(also at the top). We do tend to lose sight of the topic in our threads but don't get too frustrated:rolleyes:;). We kind of have 2 chat threads... "Roll call" during the week and the "weekend warriors" for those at home while everyone else is visiting during the weekend. When asking questions it does help if you always specify the prison;) otherwise you'll get a whole bunch of info for ISP since that is where most of us go:D

WELCOME!!!

I GO TO CHUCKIE'S HOUSE AND FROM WHAT I'VE LEARNED IT'S A LITTLE EASIER THAN ISP...AS FOR THE PROCESSING, WE LINE UP OUTSIDE THE PRISON (YOU'LL SEE THE CARS WHEN YOU PULL UP) THE CARS START TO MOVE ABOUT 7:30 CHUCKIE IS THE FIRST PRISON PULL IN PARK AND PROCEED TO THE VISITING BUILDING THE CO WILL GIVE YOU A NUMBER WHILE STANDING IN LINE TO HAND IN YOUR INMATE VISITING FORM.....YOU KNOW THE WHITE FORM. I GET TO CHUCKIE AT 7:30 AND I'M USUALLY IN THE PROCESSING AREA A LITTLE BEFORE OR RIGHT AT 8:00 AND THEY HAVE ALREADY STARTED PROCESSING VISITORS. ANYWAY FOR THE MOST PART IT GOES PRETTY FAST OR AT A NICE PACE. I USUALLY GET IN THE VISITING ROOM BY 9:30. SOME OF THE LADIES LINE UP ON FRIDAY NIGHT OUTSIDE BUT READ THROUGH THE THREADS AS DRACHESWIFE SAID TO GET MORE INFOMATION.....I HOPE THIS HELPS SOME AGAIN WELCOME AND IT'S NOT SO BAD. .....JUST HOT AS H*LL

Hopefully next Saturday. And maybe Sunday. ;) Not a day too soon! He just got there this past Thursday. Do I really have to wait for him to see his counselor, etc, before he can get visits?

When they are in orientation, can they still make 1 call per day?

HisServant
03-31-2008, 09:06 PM
I got 2 calls the day he got there - the first one to tell me he got there, and the second one to tell me his address, which he forgot to find out before he called me the first time. :o Minor detail, if he wants mail, eh?!

That's in B yard (B3). Not sure if they're all run the same or if it varies from yard to yard (or dorm to dorm?).

Thank You!

Just one call here on Day 1. Nothing since. Maybe this is the normal then. Hopefully this is what happens when new there and after the 14 day orientation they can call again. hm!

I hope your's calls you very soon. This is worrysome if it's normal or not at this point.

I wonder if the flu virus is under control there now too?

When my husband arrived there he put in a quick call to me, but I do remember him saying that the CO's didn't want him to use the phone during the orientation time. He also has to sign up for a time slot and he can't do that with out a CO knowing. Be patient, the orientation goes quickly and then things get better.
Oh, and the flu bug is not as bad now.

I'm hearing some points can be lowered with good behavior etc after a certain amount of time?

When does that start date begin? Reception? Orientation? Mainline? Or?

Hello all,
I am new here. My name is Iris and my penfriend, who I love so much, is in Chuckawalla. First we only wrote (I write with inmates),but feelings grew and then there is love!

I visit him last November. It took me a flight of 11 hours, because I am from The Netherlands. After that I had to drive a lot of hours to see him. I never made a prisonvisit in the Netherlands, and as you can read my English is not as good as my Dutch, but my trip went well and I saw him last November and it was soooo great to see him! I visited him 4 times (2 weekends) and next month I will visit him again!

I am sooo glad when I see him again, I can't wait!

My husband called from Chuckawalla today! First phone call in months!! Went from Men's Central Jail 11/07 to Wasco to CVSP yesterday. He is in D. Said they aren't being told what happened for there to be a lockdown. I told him what I knew from postings here. Said he had to sneak to building next door to use phone (?....lol)! Told him to call right back when our call time ended but he didn't. He has a 14 day orientation there?

So, I have a couple questions now that I'm a......Chuckies Chick: I have become one of the many people whose GTL funds from Nov 07 have "expired" (love GTL's choice of words there!) and I'm just out $25. I had read about other people's experiences with losing credit after 90 days. I had called Feb 27th....woman said I just needed to call back once he was mainlined and I knew the facility and I could have my credit "reinstated". The lady today (Carmen) didn't want to hear it! Said it was my responsibility to be aware of GTL's policies. WOW! Some customer service! So....PLEASE tell me I'm not at their mercy for phone calls!! This PCO works at Chuckies? I have submitted my initial app online....just waiting for a quote in my e-mail.

Next: I've been approved to visit. I'd be coming from MN. I'm guessing I travel that far at my own risk as far as lockdowns go? How long does it take to apply and find out if you're approved for Family Visits?

Also: So, yeah....I'll be coming from northern MN. Where it's cold! I hear I'm coming to the desert! Just how hot is it there in, say.....October or November? Any tips for having to travel 3000 miles to visit?

And: I went to Access's website to look into ordering him his special purchase of electronics and it says something about needing approval from CVSP and it gave a fax number (?). I don't understand....he's finally mainlined, he's priv group A, what's this approval I need to do a special purchase order? Anyone know?

Thanks for any help coming my way.....

Welcome, Auroborealis!

I can't answer all of the questions, but as for the weather, October or November shouldn't be too bad, but I imagine the nights are likely to be colder than you'd think of, in the desert. I recommend checking www.weather.com (http://www.weather.com), type in the zip (92225 should work), and look for the section of the monthly average temperatures. It will list the averages as well as the records highs and lows for each of the months, so that might help you determine when you want to come visit.

I don't know about Access. My guy just got to Chuckie's a little over a week ago, himself. I ordered his electronics from www.Walkenhorsts.com (http://www.Walkenhorsts.com) and they didn't say anything about needing permission from the prison. They have everything you order broken down by what's allowed for each priviledge level in each prison. You could look and see if they have the same thing there. The electronics package doesn't have to be from the same vendor as the quarterly package.

Hope this helps a little bit. I'm sure the others will have more to add!

I hope you get to do something fun while you're here in Southern California, so you don't leave with just an impression of the desert (nothing against the desert to any of you who live there; there's just so much variety it would be nice if she could get to see several things).

Love the weather website. And the warm welcome! Thank you so much.

As for in-custody info....I'm not a newbie. His 4th stint. (slow learner ;))

HisServant
04-05-2008, 11:33 PM
Mine's going to be a relatively fast learner. 2nd stint, the first was in county jail for a couple of months a few years ago; this time in prison, with NO desire to go back, a good game plan for getting help to overcome his problems, and a much better support system to come home to, when the time comes.

I'm glad the weather website helps. I use it quite a bit. Definitely let us know before you come out, so we can try to give you a warm welcome in person (warm, but hopefully not desert-hot!).
