Hi, I read in another post that you can send magazines by ordering them online, right? Can you do the same with cd's or books or anything else for that matter? (I would be sending it to Bath). Thank you so much!

Yup, you can send as many CD's as you want. I believe the inmate can have 40 CD's in his cell, any extra just sit in storage and the inmate can exchange them.

What isn't allowed is burned cds. They can be used, but not burned.

Just re-read your question. My error, my comment above is for sending in CD's when a inmate first arrives at his mother institution.

Each prison has a Inmate Purchasing Store. When an inmate orders from there, he must pay an inmate welfare fee, as well as the stores commision on the sale, plus taxes.

So they go out of their way to block anything ordered directly from the street. About the only approval would be for religious purposes. Say, sending in a bible etc.

Magazine, because they come in the mail, from the actual company, are always allowed. Just about anything else would be very difficult. As for books, the prison should have a library, it may be possible to have books sent in, but donated to the library, but you'd have to pre-arrange that.

Every institution seems to have it's own rules. The inmate in the institution, can knock on the door of the Inmate Committee for that institution, who will let him know how it works.

As indicated by robreid you can send up to 40 cd's but they have to be originals and not burnt. They can only be sent with his personal property package that he has 30 days to receive after reaching his mother institution. Make sure you sent them in cases or they definately look original because i sent them all in a CD carrying case and they almost refused them because they said they couldnt tell if they were all real or if any were burnt.

Did you get a list of other things you can send?

There is nothing you can send other than a birthday card. An inmate has 30 days upon arrival at his mother institution, when you are transferred from reception, to receive items from home. You can get an extension if there is a reason your stuff hasn't arrived. However, through inmate purchasing, an inmate can order merchandise from Sears or any store basically. So you can always send money that the inmate can use to purchase an item - say something like running shoes, or sunglasses for summer etc..Each inmate can transfer a total maximum of $500. from his savings account, to spend on the purchase of goods.
