View Full Version : HELP ME!! Dress out clothes...
Csmcgrl23 03-21-2007, 07:04 PM I sent his package of clothes for him to come home, there was no indication on the form as to who I address the package to so I addressed it to him. I come home today and the package is sitting at my front door!!! First I'm annoyed that the post office left something that was delivery confirmation sitting at my front door...second, there is a sticker that the BOP put on there with numerous things they can check off and they checked two things... "Not Authorized" and "no authorization to receive package" but the form I have IS the authorization to receive package or property....so WTF? I called but I have to call back...was just wondering if anyone could help me out with this one....I'm pissed cause now I have to pay the postage again!!! URGH!!!!!

curlyhead 03-21-2007, 08:37 PM My son was telling me that , I would have to send himclothes too, not for awhileyet, but, I want to know how to do it properly too! let us know what they say, maybe you have to mark the package going home clothes , or something to signify ????? I,d be furious too!
Csmcgrl23 03-22-2007, 05:25 PM Ok, so I called this morning and tried to get the unit manager but the person I spoke to wasn't putting me onto his voicemail...so I asked for the mailroom and he told me to call back in an hour. So I did and he said that they never got the authorization for his clothes so he finally put me thru to the unit manager and I got his voicemail. Well he finally called me back and he left me a message. He said that he checked with the mail staff as they should have had the form but when he had them check sure enough they didn't. So he said they have it now and I can go ahead and resend the package. Nice right? I have to pay for it twice!!! But whatever.....
My best advice would be to call the mailroom of the facility before you send the package and make sure that they have the authorization form before you send the clothes, that way they won't come back to you!!!
kintml2u 03-22-2007, 05:27 PM csm...did you write 'authorized blah-blah' on the outside of package?
I've found this to be a must do for other authorized items and I'm sure it would be the same for packages such as this.
Hopefully you'll get it straightened out!
It probably would hurt to put the authorized whatever type of package it's considered with 'authorization form enclosed' along with it!
kintml2u 03-22-2007, 05:29 PM Geez...was typing as you posted!
That makes not much sense when I'm sure you enclosed your copy...they could have verified it not to be a false document, hell...they are the best at it! :p
Csmcgrl23 03-22-2007, 05:36 PM That would have been too much work for them, they opened it and I know they saw the form cause it was right on top of everything, even when I got it back but then they didn't close the box back the way they received it...jerks...but that's ok....but Kint, that's a great idea and I will write on the outside of the box this time.

We had the exact same problem. There really is no sense of urgency or efficency within the BOP. Don't forget to include the copy of the form (yellow copy I believe) inside the box or it will be sent back again. Also do not put anything in the box except what is listed on the Form.
Fortunately, my wife kept a copy of her form to show them in the mail room and even then they wanted to send her stuff back home because the Councelor couldn't get it together enough to see that the right form made it 15 feet down the hall to the mail room.
Our Government at work. NOT!
Keep the Faith
Michael

2nice 03-31-2007, 01:32 PM Out of curiosity... what do they allow you to send? When are you allowed to send it (how far in advance)? When do you get the authorisation form?
TxRhino 04-01-2007, 05:13 PM 2nice,
The inmate will fill out a form provided by their councelor listing all items to be sent about 1 mnth prior to releases. The Counselor will keep 2 copies and forward 1 to the mail room. The inmate is given 3 copies, 2 of which will be sent home. Once you recieve the forms, gather the clothing articles described on the list, box them, place 1 copy of the form (yellow copy I beleive) in the box and send it just as you do letters.
The down side is even though the councelor has several weeks to get a copy of the form to the mailroom.... they seem to totally space it off, or the form gets lost, or some other excuse and the mailroom folks want to refuse the shipment and send it home rather than walk across the hall or pick up the phone and check to see if an inmate is being released soon. Allow plenty of time to send the box mltiple times or until BOP can get their stuff in one sock.
Keep the Faith
Michael

Question Michael, when does the BOP ever get their stuff in one sock? I think that is like how many licks to the center of a Tootsie pop? No one knows it has never happened.
SCMom 04-10-2007, 06:27 AM My son told me that they cannot receive it before 30 days before he is released. Are some facilities different? I think I will make a copy of the form and send both of them just in case.....or since we are picking him up, we can have things in the car. I was planning on taking a few things for him anyway. Also, does anyone know how long they give you to get to the HWH? He is really wanting a juicy steak!:)
