View Full Version : 1/2 house & home confinement?
Steve&kids 07-09-2002, 10:21 AM Stephanie is not going to be able to do the drug program and get the year off her sentence because her conviction is considered violent. So, her release date is scheduled for Dec. 2006! Thats a straight 85% of her sentence. What is a 1/2 house and what is home confinement and does she have to do them both?Steve&kids
Goody's Girl 07-09-2002, 11:14 AM Steve, 1/2 house is a half-way house. And home confinement is house arrest I think.

sherri13 07-09-2002, 11:43 AM I THINK YOU ARE RIGHT TRACY
STEVE- I THINK FED-X (DAVID) KNOWS A LOT ABOUT THIS
Steve&kids 07-09-2002, 11:52 AM Thank you, that explaines that. Now, do they do 6 months home confinement and six months house arrest, or ,how does it work?Steve&kids
Budwoman 07-09-2002, 01:31 PM IT IS ACCORDING TO WHAT THE COURT DECIDES SHE NEEDS TO HAVE.... IT COULD BE MOST ANY COMBINATION OF BOTH... BUT, THE GIRLS ARE RIGHT.... 1/2 HOUSE, SHE LIVES AT THE HOUSE, GETS A JOB, HAS VISITORS AND SOME HOME VISITS.
HOUSE ARREST, SHE LIVES AT HOME WITH AN ARM OR LEG BAND THAT GOES OFF IF SHE IS NOT IN BY CURFEW.

Steve&kids 07-09-2002, 04:31 PM Can the spouse of the one in prison request that she be given as much home/house arrest? Will they take note of the fact that we have 5 kids and at home the kids would be so much happier,me too! Steve&kids
vnvdvc 07-09-2002, 04:58 PM I don't understand why the person can't just go home from the gate? You HAVE to go to a 1/2-way house? Someone let me know more about this?
Fed-X 07-09-2002, 07:47 PM In the Feds, you get up to 6 months 1/2 way house & home confinement. It is not in addition to your prison sentence, but a part of it.. So.. Say you are scheduled to do 27 months in prison, you would actually do 21 of them behind the walls, and 6 in 1/2 way house & possible home confinement/house arrest. (Assuming you get approved for 6 months) Sure, you can go home from the "gate" but you will have to serve all that "27 months" with no 1/2 way house, etc. And they might try and order you to do it..
Honestly, I think it is a great idea for anyone that doesn't have things setup for them when they leave prison..
vnvdvc 07-10-2002, 08:49 AM Thanks for clearing that up for me!
Molly 07-10-2002, 08:57 AM David,
How does one qaulify for a half way house or home confinement in Federal Prison? Is it usually 6 months? Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Molly
torrey 07-10-2002, 02:02 PM For what I have researched on Halfway Houses they are a help in "aclimatizing" someone back into the work world. They usually have living skills, job hunting and interviewing, stress management, parental, anger managment, drug and alcohol group meetings and training. I think these programs are good in helping people back into our "crazy" world. I being a mother of three could understand coming directly from a prison type setting into the a home of 5 children might cause some anxiety. The programs in the Halfway house will help with work/home skills most of us could use and I'm sure would be helpful to a newly released prisoner.
Best I could tell from the Halfway House programs I looked into it is a good thing.
BillnDenise 07-10-2002, 05:40 PM Billy's in federal but can't have a half way house. He has to do the straight sentence with time served and good behavior. They've already told him that because of his charge. So he'll come home straight from the prison and have 3 years probation. It will be hard for him to adjust, but we will make it through.
KConnor56 07-10-2002, 06:13 PM I don't know about fed half way houses, but Calif half way houses are a trap. Your better off doing your time. People going in & completeing it sucessfully is the exception not the rule. I only know of one guy who ever went to a fed half way house (my sisters ex/boyfreind) but I never talked to him about it & know no details. I guess they would work if your really serious about going straight & have no where else to go. -----Ken
faeriegirl 07-10-2002, 08:35 PM So do you have any say or choice in whether you can do home confinement or a halfway house? And if you have a 12 mth sentence, how long would you usually expect to be in prison and how long elsewhere?

The feds want you to go to half-way house.. There are a few things that will disqualify you such as being HIV positive, threat to society related charges, loss of a lot of good time, etc.. If you have been a "model" inmate, you should have a good chance to get the full, or close to full term of 1/2 way house.. (6 months in the feds)

In regards to the fed system, you will be released to 1/2 way house most all of the time. Home confinement comes after 1/2 way house and is part of that program. You are technically elligable for home confinement once you have reached your 10% date. (Do a search on PTO if you would like to read past threads on the 10% date) I believe you MUST be at the 1/2 way house for at least 30 days even if you have passed your 10% date before you can go on home confinement.
As for how much time someone will do on a 12 month sentence... Don't get comfortable on the inside, your going to be back out in a blink.. ;)
I 'm guessing but I'd say that they will be in for about 5 months.. maybe 6.. with 1/2 way house included..
~cheenna~ 07-10-2002, 09:21 PM A half-way house can be good or bad depending on where it is. This is the information my Son had received concerning them about a year and half ago. Many in TX are not run conducive to an ex-inmates best interests.
Steve I would think the size of your family would be considered in recommending house arrest. When the time comes I would think you might petition the parole board. Now, I have no personal experience to base this on, it just seems like it would be so! I sure hope they would allow Stephanie to serve part of her time at home, that would be better for the kids. We all know, it would do you good! LOL
Steve&kids 07-10-2002, 09:50 PM Thank you folks!Steve&kids
cobwebqueen 07-11-2002, 11:46 AM Speaking of H.I.V, do they test you before you are discharged to the half way house? What about Hep C, do they also test for that?
B-Ray 07-11-2002, 12:44 PM I wonder about those things too (hiv hep-c) with a possible inmate partner. I guess those test will just have to be done once there out.
Steve&kids 07-12-2002, 11:49 PM Cobwebqueen, help me out here. Something must have been over my head because you said"speaking of HIV"and I cant find where anyone spoke of it.Where did that come from?Steve&kids
jsnake 04-20-2008, 07:31 PM from my experience, In Georgia, no one is tested when released, only on arrivals.
