View Full Version : Should I move to Arkansas?
juliwaits 09-12-2003, 09:16 AM My husband is in coutny jail in Arkansas waiting to go to ADC. His crime was 4 years ago, so at time of sentencing we were heppily married and in Texas.
i want to move to Arkansas since it will be easier to visit, and I'm wondering if I have a home established there (instead of in another state) would it help for parole purposes?
Would love to hear from anyone in Arkansas! I currently drive 7 hours ONE WAY to see him for 20 minutes through thick glass. Can't touch him, and is hard to hear him.
toi_ama 09-12-2003, 09:26 AM I'm sure it probably would help if you were in the same state. Getting paroled to another state is sometimes hard, but if you were living in Texas when he was sentenced, maybe that would make a difference in how easy it is to have him paroled to you there.
SlopokesJoy 09-12-2003, 10:33 AM I also live in Texas and my man was in Miller county until they moved him to the Wrightsville Unit. I visited him through a television screen, I hated that ! Now since they have moved him, I haven't been able to get a visitation since he's doing Boot Camp.I thought about moving to Arkansas, too. That's where he from and the rest of his family is too. I want to be close to him when he's released.
Jacody 09-12-2003, 01:59 PM What jail is your man at? Does he have family here? I live in Northwest Arkansas and my husband is currently in Benton, AR. This is a work release facility. What area you are wanting to move too?
juliwaits 09-12-2003, 08:20 PM Slopokesjoy, wow - a TV screen? that's just terrible! Makes glass sound so wonderful. Bless your heart!
Jacody - His family lives near Mount Ida so I'd like to move near there if I can. I'm trying to find a job working remotely so I can earn a decent living in Arkansas, it's going to be hard to give up my income here, but we won't need much to make it there. He's in Independence County Jail right now waiting to go "who knows where" within ADC. I'm anxious to see where he's going to end up, but worried about the pros and cons of ADC vs County Jail, you know? I'm pretty sure I drive thru your town on my way to batesville and back.
SlopokesJoy 09-12-2003, 11:44 PM Yes, it was terrible..........
I stood in line for close to 2 hours for a 15 minute T.V. screen visit. I thought our 2 year son may think his daddy is on T.V. That's the way it is at Miller County, none of the other jails are like that, they have the glass. When the screens went out all visits were cancelled and the 8 hour drive would be a waste.He'd call me later the next day and tell me how upset he was that he didn't get a chance to see us.I never told him how much it hurt me as well as my vehicle to drive that far to get turned away.I loved him too much!But, when he gets through these 60 days we will see each other again.
juliwaits 09-13-2003, 08:07 AM Slopokes, well I'm so happy that when my husband had his momentary lapse of stupidity (committed his crime) he wasn't in Miller county! And you even drive further than me! Wow. At least he only got 60 days, I envy you there. My husband will be going to ADC once a bed opens up, and his P.E. date is May 2005. I find this all QUITE depressing. Has PTO helped? It seems to depress me a bit - I find it easier sometimes to pretend he's really working out of state (which is what we've told our neices and nephews, my children, doctor, dentist, etc.
SlopokesJoy 09-13-2003, 11:48 PM Juliwaits;
He's not being released yet( I wish he was), he just has to do 60 days of no visitation and no phone calls, along with the rest of the stuff he has to do during Boot Camp.That's what he had to do before he was transferred to Wrightsville Unit, "wait for a bed".
I read a lot of the stuff on here, too. And some of it depresses me, but some of it helps me through this time away from him.So,where is your hubby now?
juliwaits 09-14-2003, 12:34 AM Slopoke's Joy - My husband is Independence County Jail waiting for a bed. Wow, 60 days of no calls or visitation? that's so terrible. It just seems unfair! *hugs*
juliwaits 09-14-2003, 12:36 AM Slopoke's Joy - one more question. Where will your man be after boot camp, will they keep him in the same facility he's in or move him somewhere else? I'm in DFW area, by the way.
