Shane's family is from the Red Lake band of Chippewa located in Minnesota. Unfortunately, he is not "enrolled" because we cannot find anyone in his family who has their paperwork anymore. Most don't seem to care or don't want to help him.

Shawn is Lakota....he fell away from his spirituality for years on the outside, but he embraces it firmly today.

When he talks to me about Grandfather, I can hear the emotion in his voice. I feel his belief system will play an important role in his ability to walk the straight and narrow when he comes home.

my husband is Cherokee, from Oklahoma. He lived on the reservation when he was young, with his father (Talequa). i hope i spelled it right. His mother is also half Mexican. His faith is his lifeline right now...he has many brothers inside who have taken him "under their wing". i am thankful for that.he has a special spirit.

Hey Cyndi,

Ya-ta-HO!! We put a little spin on the greeting...a mix of "Ya'at'eeh" and "Ah-Ho"!! LOL Yep, I finally made my way here to the Native American forrum! I am originally from the rezz (born there), but I live in Phoenix, AZ. I have lived my childhood years in Idaho, the REZZ and Utah. And from high school on, lived on the rezz and moved to Phoenix, where I've been for several years. I do go to the reservation quite a bit, to get out of the city. My cousin has lived on and off from the rezz to Idaho, but has lived most his life off the reservation. I can still report news straight from the reservation, broken english and all...aiiiyeeeeeee :)

When Two Worlds Collide

when two worlds collide

mabel bassett

and

Native Pride

so many natives

so much time

so many people

but who stands

alone

out of tha crowd

standing tall

and

proud

We were all made

to stand

as one

we never hide

and

we never run

that's one thing

for sure

our blood

is

pure

we're not like

any other

race

you can tell

by the look

on our

face

so stoic

yet

so strong

we have

endured

our struggle

for so long

but whose

complaining

cuz it sure

aint me

if only people

could see

tha respect

and

tha honor

from which

we are

conceived

and

the love

that most of us

receive

it's one of a kind

unlike

any other

one thatıs so

pure

you can only get

from your

mother

but yeah, back to the point

about

Native Pride

in prison

where we all are

with our

families

not very far

away

that is

cuz we're all here

as one

no matter

if you're time

has just begun

we will continue

to be

a strong force

when we

combine

as one nation

so we can

withstand

all this

hateration

that goes on

around here

on this yard

even though

itıs very

hard

cuz everyone

is here

to survive

and to get thru

this test

alive

thats one thing

we have in common

with

everyone else

around here

walkin'

I see these girls

and I read

their faces

then I think

this is not

the place

nor

the time

for negativity

of any kind

but thats the stuff

that keeps

this place going

and these girls

are so caught up

without even

knowing

but let me

just leave it at that

one things

for sure

you can never

look back

cuz the past

is gone

and thats

a fact

Natives stand alone

as one

and thats just

that

Hi Cyndi.
All is well with all of us. I am in the last leg of my degree program and will head to Calgary next year to work on my masters. It just never seems to stop. Both children are in jr. high now and Adam is doing well. One day at a time. Still a few years to go.
Gardens are up to 102 families now and its nuts. I love what I do and every time I can help someone I think of all the people who helped me.
Oh and Adam said I should send a big hello to everyone at prisontalk online, He is aware how much it helps me. He's also aware I haven't been online for awhile...school is keeping me too busy.

I will try to make up for it though. Mitakuye Oyasin Everyone! Lina
