Hey guys...I was wondering thoughts on an inmate coming home. I have read of all the problems behind the walls with tuberculosis, Hepatitis, staph etc.

Am I being crazy, or would a complete phsical be in order for an inmate returning home? Of those who have come home recently, have you guys had physicals....blood and labs??

I'm looking forward to responses on this!

It certainly couldn't hurt. I'd suggest that you tell the doctor that you want hep C testing and such, because a doctor wouldn't normally test for those things, possibly, not necessarily knowing how prevalent these things are in prison. A complete physical does include blood work, which would show if liver readings were off, and staph would show that way, too. TB testing is done by a skin test, so you might want to suggest that one.

My husband and I had discussed this.....when he comes home he wants to have a complete physical done. I think it would be in the best interest of every inmate to have a physical as soon as they can.

Hadn't really thought of this before ... excellent question, Kath ... on thinking of it now, I think a physical would deffinitely be in order for any new releasee ... not only for peace of mind but also as a baseline for the future ...

~ not to mention, "ounce of prevention ... ", "better safe than ... " and etc.

Kathy,

I had one done after I came home, more just to get an update on whether the cancer had returned (it had not), but for peace of mind too.

I would.

i am definetly gonna make my boyfriend undergo a physical. if it were just me that he was coming home to, i wouldn't be so worried, but i hav e 4 children at home, so ithink it is very important to know that he isn't putting the kids in any harm.i suggest to all parents , make your inmate get a physical upon release

They have physicals in Florida. Charlie had his physical, including HIV test, Hep-C, etc. about 2-3 weeks before he was released. It was not a "charged" sick call (meaning the inmate didn't have to pay for it) rather a condition of release.

They also have physicals here in Tennessee that they do on a routine in the prison to check for all of that. I didn't know they did it until my man told me about 2 weeks ago, its a good thing they do b.c I never had that thought come to my mind.

I will definitely want my husband to get one. When I was filling out new patient forms for the kids at the doctors office recently, one of the questions was - is the child in contact with/exposed to anyone in prison? It kind of shocked me at first, then made me start wondering about them. Especially with our youngest being only 2. It started creeping me out about what my husband and me and our children are exposed to every week.

Here in Michigan they get a physical with TB testing and blood work, ect. on their birthday every year. Brad just had his done a couple months ago, but I have already made a doctor's appointment, a dentist appointment and an eye appointment for a couple weeks after he gets home, just to be on the safe side and to establish a "dr/patient relationship" for him in case he gets sick and that way we won't have a hard time finding a dr. to see him if he does get sick.
