My father is in FPC Duluth. I live about 170 miles from the prison, so we are fairly close. I am sending a letter tomorrow via USPS....I am wondering how long it will take before he should get the letter? I know mail time to Duluth will be about 2 days. Does the prison hold inmates' mail for awhile or are they pretty good about getting the mail to them?

This is all new to me, thanks for the help everyone.

By law they have to give him his mail. The government is not allowed to hold an inmates mail. It should take about 2-3 days.

They're usually pretty good about it, though they can call mail at pretty much any hour of the night and if you're not in the unit to pick it up, you may not get it until the next mail call. Also be aware mail only happens M-F no weekend mail and the delivery speed also depends on how fast they sort it when it comes in and how much mail there is that day to be sorted. If they get swamped sorting, it can take a couple of days

My husband said since I date the mailing date and the mailing number (I sequentially number each envelope) on my envelopes he sometimes gets them the very next day. I send them from the house on my way to work and within 24-48 he normally has them in his hand.

His have been coming within 2 -3 days.

I Am In Alabama My Guy Is 170.2 Miles Away, So The Computer Says. I Sent A Letter And Some Pictures Yesterday, He Got Them Tonight Already. When He Was In Another Facility It Took 3 Days, But I Think They Stayed Behind Alot, Short On Staff Or Something Or Maybe They Just Checked Incoming Mail Closer.

Our son is just under 100 miles from us. In one of my letters I wrote to him, I dated it and in it I asked him to tell me when he got it. It was 7 days!!! So the mailroom where he soon will not be at, I guess is slower than you guys!!!

My husband is in Duluth and I am in Illinois, 632 mile difference. It usually takes 2-3 days to get his letters. In Duluth they are really good with the mail.

My dude is 2.5 hours from me and the facility gets his mail in two business days but when he actually receives them is another story. It seems it can be anywhere from the day they receive to 4 days after they receive it. But i won't complain. He has been in facilities where it has taken longer.
